When I’m Not Writing
I am the QUEEN of hobbies. I get too easily distracted. Like right now, I am fighting the urge to create gorgeous steampunk cameos for jewelry. I know exactly how I would design them, too. I have this vision of a Victorian type collar with a black widow cameo and a teardrop garnet hanging from it. Gorgeous!
When I’m not writing I am baking, or knitting, or weaving, or hatching chicken eggs in my incubator (true story!). In the past I have raised goats in my backyard and milked them to make my own (disastrous) cheeses and (delectable) flan. I do all these things with my kids, which are also the number one distraction from getting any writing done. I draw and paint and create in just about any medium I can find. Creating is my sanity and my anchor.
Orson Scott Card said in one of his books that Making was the only way a person could fight off the UnMaker. I always loved that and I can understand the feeling. When the world is crazy, I can make something and everything feels much better.
I’ve been able to use many of my experiences from my hobbies in my books. Cindy Eller, like me, loves to riff on old tried and true recipes. Goldie Locke’s experience hatching a dragon was enhanced by my own experiences hatching chickens. Meg Tanner, from my book Adrift learned how to weave as a way of coping with her destiny.
I’m a firm believer that writers need to be well-read and have experiences in their own lives to bring to the table. As I have grown and matured I know that my writing has also matured. As my life changes I know I will have more and more to add to the wealth of the worlds I have created.

All her life she's been cursed-- every man she's ever kissed has turned into a toad. Love isn't likely to come her way, she knows.
If that weren't a big enough problem, her 'curse' has come to the attention of the Council of Magic and she may never be able to use her powers.
Enter the perfect man-- handsome, sweet, and loves food just as much as Cindy does. It would seem to be a match made in Heaven, or is it?
Cindy isn't the only one keeping secrets.
With toads, cupcakes, romance, magic and ice cream, life never has time to get dull!
About the Author:
Legend has it that Elizabeth A Reeves was born with a book in her hands and immediately requested a pony. Though this story is questionable, it is true that books and horses have been consistent themes in her life. Born in Massachusetts, she was quickly transplanted to Arizona by a professor father and creativity-driven mother, who is the one responsible for saying "If you can't find a book that you want to read, write a book you want to read."
In her spare time, she likes to knit, weave, hatch chickens, and chase after her husband and four sons.
