Prevention is the Best Medicine for Our Pets

Hey everybody, Truffles at the keyboard! I have some good news and some bad news. First, the good news: this week I celebrated my 9 month anniversary in my forever home! Now the bad news: Mommy has started uttering the words that kitties everywhere dread...yearly vet checkup. Car rides, grabby hands, and needles...oh my!

In all seriousness, an annual checkup is extremely important. Many health problems such as hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and dental disease can be detected and treated before causing additional issues; vaccinations and flea and tick prevention need to be addressed; blood work as your pet ages is essential. Building a relationship with your vet early on is important too so that when an illness or injury occurs, they know our personalities and quirks and we feel comfortable with them, as well.

We found a great infographic about the importance of Visiting the Vet from our friends at VetDepot. (Looking at the list of Top 10 Feline Claims, Mommy said that she has visited the vet for 6 of those issues with just her last 3 cats!) We hope you find it informative, and if anybody needs me, I'll be hiding under the bed for the foreseeable future...

  2. We would throw off the times an average cat visits the vet a lot! Carmine goes every other week and Jewel goes at least every 2-3 months.

We are glad your mommy is taking you for a check up, even if it is scary for you. She wants to keep you healthy :)

  3. Truffle, we're gonna say something but don't tell our mom. We know going to the vet is important and we know we need an annual checkup. Though it doesn't mean we hafta like it!

  4. Truffles you are right prevention is so much better than trying to combat an issue out of control.

  5. Great reminder, Truffles! Even though we don't *like* going to the vet, we know Mom and Dad love us and want to make sure we are as healthy as possible. Hugs! - Moosey, Gracie and Zoe

  6. Not that I enjoy it, but I see my vet on a VERY regular basis.
And it should go without saying that she wears her big armpit-length suede gloves on a regular basis too.

    Great Reminder, Truffles!

  8. I hope that your vet check up goes well! Those are some interesting facts. I find it interesting that dogs and cats have almost the same lists of things they see the veterinarian for, but in a different order.
