The ASPCA sponsors Pet Poison Prevention Week in conjunction with National Poison Prevention Week. It's a time to educate Americans about common household products, plants and medications that can be dangerous or even deadly to pets. Just as dangerous can be the foods that we eat everyday and let our pets have a nibble of, not realizing that it's toxic to them. After all, who doesn't enjoy sharing snacks with their pets?
I recently came across an interesting infographic that details various foods that can be healthy treats versus those which can end up being harmful. Do any of them surprise you?
A comprehensive list of questionable products and substances can be found on the ASPCA website. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is the premier animal poison control center in North America and your best resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you think that your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, make the call that can make all the difference: (888) 426-4435. A $65 consultation fee may be applied to your credit card. The ASPCA also has a new Poison Prevention App that provides you with life-saving information. The app is free and can be downloaded here.

What a great summary of safe and unsafe foods for cats! I had no idea cooked eggs were an ok thing for cats... this would explain why I've found Katie nosing around my breakfast plate!
: )
Paws up! We didn't know about too much liver being bad for us. Thanks for sharing this!
That's a great graphic. We knew most of these things...but a couple were new to us.
Great post! I love the grumpy cat face on the poison side. :)
we posted that infographic a few weeks ago and we are glad to see it continue to be shared, we can never share enough!

This is an excellent infographic! I am actually surprised that melon is okay to feed cats as a treat. Carmine loves carrots. Before he got FLUTD, I fed him an occasional cooked carrot when I had some for dinner. :)
That is great information...we didn't know about watermelon.
Thank you for sharing such important information!

I had some corned beef today but I’ve had it before. I see deli meat can be given in small quantities. Inneresting reading. BTW, don’t some people feed their cats raw diets that contain raw fish?
