Forever Young, My Precious Truffles


This is the hardest blog post I've ever had to write. 

Just hours after I finished writing my tribute to Tara on the two year anniversary of her passing, Truffles joined her. She had a saddle thrombus, a blood clot at the base of her aorta. Nothing could be done to save her.

It just doesn't seem possible...two years to the day, almost to the hour, that Tara died. I've often wondered which is worse...a long illness or sudden death. Now I know. I just feel like the entire world has stopped.

The next couple of days we'll be running pre-scheduled book reviews. Next week I will continue to pay tribute to my beautiful, precious little angel.

    This news is just so very sad and shocking. I can't imagine how you are holding yourself together. This is truly a painful day--especially given that it is Tara's anniversary.     I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Losing a pet overnight with no warning is awful. I lost my Weenie 2 years ago on Memorial Day when he was bitten by killer bees and it was so difficult to deal with. .

    There really aren't any words of comfort I can give, but I am so incredibly sorry. I don't think it matters how we lose our furry family members, it is devastating no matter what, but for Truffles to pass on Tara's anniversary is unimaginable. I hope you find the comfort you need. Hugs.

    There are no words of comfort sufficient for something like this. I am truly sorry. I know the pain of both a long illness and a sudden death. Without a doubt, a sudden death is much harder. Either way, they are both painful and sad. I will keep you in my thoughts during this difficult time. Again, I am very sorry.

    I am so sorry for your sudden loss of Truffles. It's difficult to lose a pet when you're somehow "prepared" for it, but it's absolutely heart wrenching when the loss is unexpected. I believe Tara and Truffles will give you strength and comfort from Spirit World as grieve the loss of your beautiful kitty.

    We are so sorry to learn of beautiful Truffles leaving you and your family. Saddle Thrombus is a most awful and shocking thing to happen, heart breaking just doesn't cover it. We lost Oliver to this, and there isn't a day goes by where the ape doesn't remember it. Be kind to yourself and take time for yourself, Truffles will keep an eye on you and will always be in your heart.

    After our Boo died suddenly at only 8 yrs old, Mom was distraught, as were we all. It didn't help at the time, but now we are happy she had a great 8 years and never suffered. We are in shock and so very sad for you. She will always be in your heart. Sending hugs to you.

    I don't think we are ever prepared to lose one we love so much. I remember so keenly how it felt like a part of my heart was being ripped out when I accepted that Em had passed. At 16 with diabetes, a heart condition and then cancer, it was beyond her time when she finally passed, so there was a small solace of 'she had a good life' but at the time it did not matter. Kodi was six months..

    I was also shocked to read about Truffles yesterday. I know how hard it was to watch Sweet Praline dying when she had the cancer, but I guess I had time to prepare for it, even though it was hard. My thoughts are with you as you grieve the loss of your special Truffles.

    Hi Melissa, I am so, so sorry to hear about Truffles! There aren't enough words at a time like this - and I do understand, as I have watched my kitties go through long illnesses, and then lost one suddenly last fall. My thoughts are with you as you commemorate Truffles for us in the days ahead. I will miss her contributions to your blog,, too!! j

    Oh, that's terrible! I saw a few of these during my time working in a veterinary ER, and they broke my heart every single time. They're breathtakingly sudden, and they just don't let you prepare for the loss. I'm so, so sad this happened to your family.
