Today is National Feral Cat Day, and in our neck of the woods, winter is right around the corner. Overnight lows in the next few days are expected to dip into the teens and 20's! This is going to be my first Vermont winter and I'm so thankful to have a warm home and beds and Mommy to cuddle with. But my heart breaks to think about our feral cat friends trying to survive another long, cold winter.
Fortunately, there's something we can all do to help. It's incredibly easy to build a feral cat shelter using only a plastic tote, a styrofoam cooler, straw, and a knife.
Check out this cool video by Cole and Marmalade:
How easy was that??? Once you see that a cat has begun to use the shelter you can also add a plastic or vinyl flap over the opening to protect them even more from the elements.
If you don't know of any feral cat hangouts in your area, ask your local shelter to help you distribute them where they're most needed!

What a great way to help cats get through the cold winter when they don't have a forever home.

After yesterday, I ain’t letting TW anywhere near a knife. Heh heh. UCFCC provides warm igloos for the colonies around here so the cats can winter in style.

Wow, it's getting chilly here too,but not that chilly! Those are awesome outside kitty houses!
We just love Cole and Mamalade!
Last year Mommy made shelters with her friend. We were glad that kitties were able to stay warm.
Thanks for sharing this, I may try to make one to donate.
