Purr-fect Gift Books for Cat Lovers

I obviously receive a *lot* of cat books to review. (No complaints about that, either!) Some of them I instantly know will be purr-fect for gift giving, so today I pulled together a few of my favorites, and guess what? Thanks to the generous authors and publishers, one lucky reader in the US is going to win a set of all three!!!

Shake Cats by Carli Davidson (Harper Design, $17.99). Featuring more than sixty cats, a message from the author about the importance of animal rescue and adoption, outtakes from the photo shoots, and an explanation of how she got the cats to shake, I defy you to look at this book without smiling. Cats A-Z by Martha Knox (Words On Woodcuts Press, $16.95). This is one of the most unique and artistic books I've seen, described as "not just another cute cat book. It is a cat book for the more deeply contemplative cat lover." The artwork for the book are reproductions of woodcuts. The original prints were carved from shina plywood blocks and hand-printed using a wooden spoon. The included cat stories, from the well-known to the more obscure, range from humorous to thought provoking, and make for a true conversation piece.

Ketzel, the Cat Who Composed by Leslea Newman (Candlewick Press, $16.99). The famous quote by Andrew Schweitzer — 'There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats' comes to life in this darling new children's book. It's the true story of Moshe Cotel, a composer who lived in a noisy building on a noisy street in a noisy city, who takes in a tiny black and white kitten he names Ketzel. One day Ketzel took a stroll down Moshe’s piano keyboard, the composer wrote down what he heard, entered the composition in Paris New Music Review’s One-Minute Competition, and “Piece for Piano, Four Paws” ended up receiving honorable mention and even a royalty check for $19.72!
