I know what you're thinking. What a silly title for a blog post, right? Of course Mommy loves me...who wouldn't adore that face???
Well this week she proved it.
(This is my selfie for the Sunday Selfies blog hop hosted by The Cat on My Head).
You may have heard on the national news that a pretty huge political rally took place here in our hometown of Burlington, VT this week. Mommy got a ticket and planned on attending with her neighbor, until she heard that 20,000 free tickets were distributed for a theater that holds 1,400 people. Seating was first come, first served, and it seemed like a disaster waiting to happen.
Since our local news station would be live streaming the event, Mommy decided to stay home with me and watch it from the comfort of our living room. She said part of her reasoning included that she just didn't want to leave me home alone for the hours and hours she would be gone.
Yep...she loves me!
Goodbye, old friend
Mommy here. It might seem pretty silly to be mourning the closing of a store, but that's exactly what I'm doing as my local Kmart closes it's doors today.
This store is less than a mile from my home and it's where I've done all of my "everyday" shopping for my entire life. It's where my mom would take me shopping as a little girl for a mother/daughter afternoon, and where we would still shop together all these years later. I feel like I grew up in that store. So, so many memories.
I'm not ashamed to admit that a few tears flowed as I walked through those doors for the very last time yesterday afternoon.
Great pic of you, Miss Mudpie!
ReplyDeleteOur Mommy doesn't blame you for being teary eyed over the loss of your local store. Our nearest one shut down 5+ years ago and we still mourn it. So sad to see this change.
((HUGS))
these closures are always sad my mummy says,xx Speedy
ReplyDeleteYOU are in Bernie's home town? TBT is SO envious. He loves Bernie.
ReplyDeleteWe here "Feel The Bern"...
Mom was never a bit KMart shopper, she does love blue light special jokes, though. Even so, she loved to go there for certain things, but most of the ones around here are gone. We don't even know where we could find one these days. It is sad when staple stores close.
ReplyDeleteOh Mudpie, of course the Mom loves you. Who could not love that gorgeous face. Too bad about the K-mart closing. Great selfie Mudpie.
ReplyDeleteYour mommie is smart. Why battle all those people when you can cat the entire thing on TV in a front row seat. It is sad to see all the KMart stores closing. Our one closed about 2 years ago. M misses it because it was fairly close to our house.
ReplyDeleteWe love your selfie, Mudpie. It was great that your mom decided to stay home with you. Much better!
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful Mommy. I am sorry about K-Mart, we have one in the next town and I am surprised it is still open because everyone goes to Wal-Mart.
ReplyDeleteYour selfie this week is purrfect, Mudpie! And I'm so glad to hear that your mom decided to stay home and watch TV with you - very wise!
ReplyDeleteMy family's go-to store throughout my entire childhood was an IGA located not but a mile from our house. It closed down a few years ago, and I still miss it.
Mudpie, who could leave that face alone for hours? And Melissa, I'm as nostalgic as you are. When I go "home" to visit my family, I"m always saying "remember when the ice rink was here?" "Remember this or that place?" Memories live forever. ~Dawn~
ReplyDeleteMudpie, that face is just too precious! Melissa, I get nostalgic about favorite places, now gone, too.
ReplyDeleteThe thought of attending a function where "20,000 free tickets were distributed for a theater that holds 1,400 people" gives me shivers of dread .... I would have stayed home, too.
ReplyDeleteMudpie, your selfie is so adorable (of course). Your mommy made a good decision to stay home with you.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a shame about your local K-Mart. I definitely understand the nostalgia.
EEEKKK that sounds like a huge crowd! Your Mom was smart to stay home!
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
I felt the same when our neighborhood Caldors store closed around here...Can relate!!!!
ReplyDeleteOf course Mommy loves you, Mudpie! And how wonderful that she stayed home with you. :)
ReplyDeleteWe understand about stores closing. It's hard not to feel nostalgic, isn't it?
What a face!!! Who wouldn't love that face? It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh Mudpie there is no doubt the love your Mom has for you!
ReplyDeleteWe are sorry about the disruption the closing of Kmart will bring.
I wonder why they are closing? Any ideas?
That's a sad story too. Sales were great, but the owner of the property wouldn't renew their lease.
DeleteOne things for sure in life - change is inevitable
ReplyDeleteMudpie, I am so happy that Mommy stayed home with you--she sure does love you lots!
ReplyDeleteAnd I certainly understand about Kmart. There was a wonderful old department store where I grew up, but it was torn down quite a few years ago. My friends and I still mourn its loss! The store held SO MANY MEMORIES from all different stages of my life-- from the time I was a little girl, shopping with my mom, until I reached adulthood and hung out there with my friends. I still dream about it! I hope Mommy took lots of pictures and journaled about her memories.

Wow! You really are loved, Mudpie. Your Mommy got the best seat in the house for the event! I'm sorry that your Mommy has to see lifelong icon disappear. That is a very sad occasion. At least she has you to help get her through it.

You sure are loved, Mudpie! That rally sure does sound like a disaster. Good thing your mom stayed home with you instead! Sorry to hear about Kmart closing too. We haven't had a Kmart in years. But tell your mom to just remember that even though the store is closing, she still has all of her fond memories!
ReplyDeleteVery smart of your mom to stay home with you. Every time mom goes to Walmart, she wonders how the K-Mart right next door (with the empty parking lot) stays open.
ReplyDeleteWe still have a KMart in Webster, Massachusetts, don't know for how long. So many good memories. Mudpie, I'm glad your Mom stayed home with you, that was a good decision.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet kitty you are, Mudpie. Very lovely selfie. To bad the shop had to close, especially when you knew it from your childhood, that makes us sad too. It feels like someone takes a little bit of your childhood :( Pawkisses :) <3
ReplyDeleteI grew up as a Kmart shopper, too. Even now, there's something about the smell of plastic and popcorn that brings back memories.

I felt that way when Woolworths closed.. and again when Zayer's closed - well technically it was Ames when it closed..
ReplyDeleteMum did well to stay home WTF is such an insane idea of over OVER selling tickets!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about a shop you love closing. Here in New Zealand a shop called Kirkauldie and Staines is closing after a lifetime's service. It was desperately sad to go in and see all the empty space ad closing down sale stuff. One good thing - the company taking over is called David Jones who are an Australian company, they are keeping on all the staff - which I think is little short of a miracle.
