Don't Tell Me She's Spoiled, #MyGreatCat Deserves the Very Best

A good cat mom will always to go extreme lengths to keep kitty happy, knowing no act is too great for the little angels entrusted to our care. I've lost count of the number of times someone has said "you spoil that cat" to me. In a way it offends me. When I think about the comfort, joy and love that my cats have brought into my life, I couldn't repay them if we had a hundred years together. So when you consider the very brief time with have with our precious pets, yes I will go out of my way to make sure they have everything they could possibly need or want.

But have you ever done something for your cat that most people would find silly? It's confession time, and you'll have to tell me if this sounds extreme or perfectly normal...

Up until Mudpie the fussiest cat I've ever known was Angel Sashi. When she decided to eat the entire house would sit silently, barely daring to breathe. In her later years she had loads of tummy troubles which didn't help matters any, so when we found a food that she loved and was gentle on her stomach, I was ecstatic. For Sashi that food was Purina Pro Plan chicken and rice, and salmon and rice in gravy.

Then came another problem. Sashi wanted cans filled with loads of gravy and meat pieces as small as possible. Some batches met her criteria more than others, so at each shopping trip I would stand in the aisle and shake cans to try to gauge the amount of gravy inside. (I'm sure I received more than my share of suspicious glances from fellow shoppers.) The most promising cans would come home with me, and once we found out the ones that earned Sashi's seal of approval, I'd jot down the lot number on the bottom of the can, go back to the store and buy a case (or two). One particular batch was such a smash hit that I was ecstatic to find more of that lot on the shelf when I stopped into a pet store while on vacation in a different state!

Sashi has been gone for 10 years now, but Purina Pro Plan has remained a staple in my home. Every day Mudpie eats their treats and kibble, and their wide variety of canned food options has become part of her wet food rotation. All formulas of Purina Pro Plan wet cat food are high in protein, featuring real meat, poultry, or fish, and proudly manufactured at Purina-owned U.S. facilities. They're even backed by a team of over 400 scientists; including nutritionists, behaviorists, and veterinarians!

I'm sure I sound like a broken record when it comes to chronicling my struggle to get Mudpie to eat more wet food, but it's such an important factor in supporting a healthy immune system and helping cats stay hydrated at any time of year, but especially in this unrelenting summer heat. From grain free to urinary tract support (which Tara needed) to metabolism formulas (Mudpie's current preference), there's something in their wet food line for every cat's needs.

Purina Pro Plan is dedicated to providing an amazing mealtime experience for cats and those that love them, taking wet cat food to a whole new level with an outstanding variety of textures and proteins. They understand that pet parents want the best for their cat and don't want to sacrifice taste in order to get the nutrition they're looking for. And every cat mom knows that if food doesn't taste good, kitty isn't going to eat it! And they shouldn't have to; they have the right to their likes and dislikes just as we do! Purina Pro Plan wet cat food provides the best of both worlds: the extraordinary nutrition your cat needs and the exceptional taste she deserves.

  1. It's good to hear that you found something Mudpie will eat. We're having the same issue with Pierre, and it's an ongoing challenge, isn't it?

  2. We actually buy ProPlan Pro because one of our cats like it. We feed raw and a high end mix high end Weruva, Solid Gold at the moment.

  4. I have indeed been told that I spoil my furbabies. And, I absolutely would not have it any other way! I love the story of you going to get as much food as possible from that one lot that Sashi liked. Honestly, that sounds like some of the things we used to do for sweet angel Rosie. There was a certain kind of food she liked that ended up only being sold at one store nearby, and that was in an entire other town in our county. That didn't matter, though, and when she would start running low I'd head out for that near total of an hour drive there and back, just for that food.

Also, it really is nice to know that I'm not the only one with young finicky kitties. Getting mine to eat moist food can be such a trick. Purrs!

  10. Cats are meant to be spoiled. My cat can be very fussy about her wet food. I have been known to open several cans before she was happy, but she's worth it.

  12. Ha! I am told the same thing :) I am learning that Callie is a tiny bit picky (not too bad). She does love her cheese and begs for it when I have it out. I bought some of the Pro Plan w/ cheese and she eats it like it's the best food ever.

  17. We are Pro Plan fans already. When Anastasia started hurling her dry food (fed for the evening meal only) I turned to the Pro Plan Lamb & Rice. Everybody's eating it now and there have been no further problems. We might try the canned, Mudpie. :) ~ Tinker, Anastasia, Chopin and Bridgie

  18. Not everyone is like you. Not everyone wants the same tings you want. Psychologists have identified at least sixteen different personality types. You need to take your time with a Phlegmatic, but you should waste no time with a Choleric.
