Mudpie Interviews...Riule, Feline Star of the Spies & Spells Series by Tonya Kappes

When a few women end up dead and the only thing they have in common is SKUL special agent Mick Jasper, he is immediately under investigation and stripped of his badge. SKUL hires Maggie Park not only because of her ability to blend in with society when undercover but her uncanny ability to know things she shouldn't. Little does the agency know that Maggie is a witch and has special powers she uses to her advantage to clear special agent Jasper's name and hopefully bring the real killer to justice before the killer figures out who she really is.

Welcome Riule! Thank you so much for chatting with me today. Could you start by telling us a little about yourself and how you came to live with Maggie?

Oh dear....Maggie has been a handful since she was in diapers! I've been a familiar to her mom, Lilith, practically forever. And when she had Maggie, I was thrilled to have another person to scratch my ear. Little did I know little Maggie was a tail puller, ear jerker and all around hot mess. Even up into her teen years she was a little different than most of the other witches. She is what we call careless. When the Spell Circle members decided upon a familiar for Maggie, they decided on Vinnie. Vinnie is cool. He's an AC Cobra sports car that keeps a very close eye on her. She'd wear me out. Thank goodness Vinnie has a supercharge under his hood.

What's it like to live in a house filled with witches and their familiars?

We familiars get a long pretty good. Most days we stick close to our witch and just roll our eyes when they get their broomstick up in a roar. But most days it's a lot of fun watching them perform their spells, listen to their cackles and play Truth or Spell.

Can you give us an inside look at a typical day for you (or is there such a thing???)

Most mornings I'm sent up to Maggie's room to make sure she's up and getting ready for work at the family diner, The Brew. She works the morning shift so she has to go in and fill up all the condiment bottles before the breakfast rush crowd. She can be really crabby in the morning. But that seems to be my morning ritual. Then throughout the day I like to hang out with Lilith in her herb garden where she grows the family secret herbs for The Brew. And. . .I'm a sleeper in warm sunny spots.

Is there any special meaning behind your name?

No. Just the type of coven I came from.

Please tell us about your latest adventure, book 3 in the Spies & Spells series Get Witch or Die Trying...

I'm just trying to keep the peace between Maggie and her family, which means keep Lilith happy. Maggie is having a hard time keeping our family secret from the mortal she works with, Mick Jasper. While Maggie is struggling to keep our secret, Lilith is struggling to decorate the house with Christmas decorations for the Christmas Home Tour she signed us up for. Mrs. Huber, our nosy neighbor, is all up in our business and she and Auntie Meme seems to being at odds agian. There is a lot of strife in the house and I'm trying to lay low and keep Lilith's head on straight.

Do you have any special powers yourself that enable you to assist Maggie in her cases?

Since Maggie is not my responsibility, I'm unable to help her. If she did ask for Lilith to help, which she has, then I can step in.

Anything you can tell us about your upcoming adventures?

Lilith has decided to put our home in the Christmas Home Tour. This means that we have to hide everything about our life and decorating for Christmas has been quit a challenge when we are so good at carving pumpkins, spiced lattes, and caramel apples, not to mention midnight Halloween spells. You will see our family continue to get a little more incorporated into the mortal world and it's becoming increasingly difficult to stay on the dark side.

What a purrfect interview, Mudpie! This sounds like such a fun read. And what a purrfect time of the year for it. Some witchy ways going on, but with Christmas in the air. I like the sound of that! Thank you so much for sharing yet another wonderful addition for our "to read" list, Mudpie and Melissa!
