Always My Christmas Angel

Truffles rushed off to the Bridge 17 months ago today. I'd like to say that I've reached acceptance of what happened but that's just not the case. Every day that goes by she's on my mind and in my heart. This will be my second Christmas without her, exactly the number of Christmases we got to spend together.

Since her portrait, paw print, and ashes rest on a table in the living room that gets moved to make room for the Christmas tree, I had to find a new spot of honor for her during the holiday season and created this special Christmas memorial area.

At night I turn on the small tree's white lights and my little angel shines like the brightest star in the sky.

  1. I love the holiday spot you have for Truffles. Purrs to you. My human is not sure it ever gets easier.

  2. My little spot of remembrance for Kitty isn't nearly as complete. I have my favorite picture of her ... a snip of the tortie fur on her back (she was a tabby tortie) ... claw sheathes and whiskers I collected ... and her favorite catnip toy. Although, now the toy is in safekeeping because SOMECAT couldn't keep his paws off it even when I bought him an identical toy of his own. It's been 10 years and I don't miss Kitty any less. For the people who claim getting another cat "fixes" the loss, I point out that Bear fills my life and my heart ... and if any cat could fill the void, it would be Mr. Wonderful. But the void is still there ... every day ... every hour ...

  3. What a lovely memorial for the holidays. Purrs to you as you remember your special angel. I agree with Summer's human - I'm not sure it ever gets any easier, and it's especially difficult during the holidays.

  4. Your memorial to Truffles is so beautiful, Mudpie. And the Christmas trees are such a purrfect touch this time of year. I bet she glows just like the angel she is when you turn on that gorgeous tree's lights. Truffles will always be with you, all year round. This is also my second Christmas without my angel Rosie. I miss her every day, and I talk to her every day. Purrs and hugs to you!

  17. Your memorial for Truffles is beautiful. I don't think you ever truly get over the loss of a beloved pet. I have found myself crying over my loss of Cinco a lot lately too. It's hard at this time of year. You are not alone.

  19. I love the idea of incorporating her memory into your holiday celebrations. To many of us try to stuff down our sadness and be cheerful this time of year, and that always come back to bite. It's so much healthier to breathe into the loss, as hard as it might be. I admire your strength, and I'm happy for your example to follow.
