Dearest Santa,
Mommy told me I should write you to tell you what I'd like for Christmas. I've been putting it off and putting it off because what on earth could a pampered little tortie like me ask for?
Last year at Christmas I'd only been in my forever home for a few months and already I had everything I could possibly ever want, and now a full year later it just gets better and better. Tons of toys, yummy treats, food I (mostly) like, warm and cozy places to catnap, more love than I can handle...
Santa, it almost seems unfair that I have so much when other kitties and doggies have so little. Mommy just read to me a story on Facebook about a dog who is going to be spending his third Christmas alone in the shelter, and he feels like no one wants him. He's actually one of the lucky ones...so many cats and dogs are cold and hungry on the street. Others have a "home" where they're neglected and abused and not treated as the treasures that they are.
If I could ask you for anything it would be that you comfort those who are feeling forgotten this Christmas. Every animal is worthy of being safe and loved and cared for and my greatest wish now and all through the year is for all of the cold and scared homeless animals out there to find their forever homes where they will be as cherished as I am.
Can you work your magic and make that happen for me? I promise I've been the bestest girl in the whole wide world and hardly ever get into any trouble. Those two times I scratched Mommy were because I was annoyed by the neighbor cat begging at my door. And I didn't mean to knock that stack of freshly folded laundry on the floor...I tossed a toy in the air and it landed on top of the pile and my nail got stuck trying to get it back. And speaking of toys, Mommy complains that I scatter them all over the house but they're so much fun to play with and then I get tired and don't feel like picking them up. I'm sure you understand.
Maybe I should stop now. Actually, maybe I should ask you for a fur sibling that I can blame these things on!
Merry Christmas, Santa...I love you!
Purrs,
Mudpie

Mudpie, that is absolutely the most purrfect letter to Santa, ever. We are asking Santa for the same thing. And, I love your fill-ins! Our #1 is identical. I'll be scurrying around the kitchen tonight! And the furbabies around here agree with you 100% on #3, Mudpie. We can't wait to see what your Secret Santa Paws sent you! Merry eve of Christmas Eve!
ReplyDeleteAmen, Mudpie!
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays,Melissa
ReplyDeleteYou are a sweetheart, Mudpie. We all know you're a perfect angel. You tell your Mommy that scattered toys mean a cat being a happy cat ... and it's one of life's blessings, even when one's human steps on one and is too busy saying inappropriate words to see the blessing in the moment. Bear and I didn't send out Christmas cards, but we wish Bear's favorite tortie and her Mommy a Merry Christmas filled with love, peace, and a bit of catnip :)
ReplyDelete{psst ... secret ... I've only seen a few episodes of Seinfeld ... and I don't think it's a huge loss that you haven't seen one}

But then she doesn't watch much Network tv. That was a beautiful letter to Santa Paws. Merry Christmas (we're starting our salutations early!)
