Last year I got to try Tiki Cat's Aloha Friends pouches and I enjoyed them because they were loaded with so much gravy. This month in my Chewy Influencer email I was excited to see another new Tiki Cat line called After Dark, promised to be high in moisture, and as you all know by now the only way this tortie eats wet food is if it's overflowing with watery gravy!
I received the variety pack which comes with two cans each of six different flavors, all chicken based (which is great because I know lots of my friends have sensitivities to fish): Chicken, Chicken & Quail, Chicken & Duck, Chicken & Lamb, Chicken & Beef, and Chicken & Pork. Once you figure out which flavors are your favorites each one also comes in individual cases of 12.
Key Benefits of Tiki Cat After Dark:
- High-protein, low-carb recipes help boost energy, support the immune system and support overall health.
- Biologically-appropriate nutrient profile mimics the natural prey of cats.
- Added minerals and vitamins support a complete and balanced diet.
- High-moisture recipes help supplement cats that don't drink enough water and helps maintain good urinary and digestive health.
So what did I think? I liked it, but I think I would've liked it more if it had come in a pouch. Mommy seems to think I'm crazy, but packaging matters to this kitty! For some reason I eat my wet food much better when it comes in a tray or a pouch then when it comes in a can. Is there some strange taste lingering in canned food that only my discriminating palate can detect? Who knows. (Now watch Mommy think she can outsmart me by putting canned food into a pouch before showing it to me. I'm on to you, Mommy!!!)
For kitties that aren't as picky as me and love food that's loaded with broth, Tiki Cat After Dark is purrfect for you. The can is full of broth so don't let your human tip the can when opening it or you might lose some of the yumminess!!!
The 12 can variety pack is available at Chewy.com for $19.33. Chewy offers FREE 1-2 day shipping for orders over $49, and with over 500 brands in stock they have something sure to make every cat or dog happy. Tell them Mudpie sent you!

I think they sound yummy! But you know what, Binga doesn't like the Tiki in a can either... although she'll eat other canned food. Odd.
ReplyDeleteMudpie, though we haven't posted our review yet, we'll give you a spoiler: The kitties around here wouldn't touch this food! Not all that surprising, though. Anyway, we're glad you liked it at least a bit, Mudpie! They should take your advise, though, and put it in a yummy pouch. Purrs!
ReplyDeleteMaybe canned food does have a weird taste that you don't like, Mudpie. The gravy sounds pretty good though--I'll bet our cats would love that! :)
ReplyDeleteMy kitties prefer gravy, too, Mudpie. They lick the gravy and leave the meaty bits. If it’s not super moist they don’t want it.
ReplyDeleteYou know, Mudpie, you just gave Mommy an idea. I'm a picky eater, and we always have cans. Now she's going to try pouches!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't eat it either. I thought it was too watery, er, brothy. TW has already pulled the switcheroo on me cos I'll only eat a certain pouched food if she puts it in a washed out Purely FF tray.
ReplyDeleteMommy's are always trying to outsmart the kitties, but cats know everything!
ReplyDeleteWe got this to try too. So far we only tried one flavor, the chicken and quail, and it wasn't our favorite. We hope we have better luck with some of the others. Oh, and we much prefer cans to pouches...go figure!
ReplyDeleteWe received this to try. We've only tried one flavor so far and you're correct about the amount of liquid. We're going to try more flavors this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI understand not liking the tin taste, I can't stand canned tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteWe really like this product. Chewy has the best stuff
ReplyDeleteWe haven't tried any Tiki products. I think Bear is like you Mudpie - he prefers the pouch too. I love that chicken is in all the varieties! I've found Bear eats wet food better when it has two tastes (like Chicken and tuna) - and that can be hard to find outside of pate (which he won't eat).
ReplyDeleteMudpie, some of us kitties also prefer food in a pouch. Having said that, we have tried this brand and love it, it's almost like people food and of course we always like to get our paws on people food! This range looks looks really yummy too, so I will purrsuade the Lady Cat to buy some for us. Love from Mr. Jack.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that you prefer a pouch over a can! Sounds like good food, though.
ReplyDeleteInteresting thoughts, Mudpie...Heather *likes* water. Her whole family do. A mountain spring flows just below the house, and they all go down to the spring, or sip rainwater if they get a chance to collect any in empty cans.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I remember one day when all the outdoor water was frozen solid, so I offered the cats who were then living with me some bottled water from town--town tap water, filtered and chlorinated. They were thirsty enough to sniff it, but they wouldn't drink it.
On one very hot day when I'd filled a couple of bottles with town water to drink during and after my walk home, Ivy asked for a share of *my* water. She made it clear that the fact that she'd begged for some of *my* water made this water special, in the "gift for you from me" category rather than the "tastes good" category; she growled over it and showed off that it was *her* prezzie, and when I poured out small shares for the other cats that obviously reduced the specialness of the water I'd shared with Ivy, somewhat.
But now I'm wondering, Mudpie...how do you feel about water that's either not had chlorine added to it, or had the chlorine filtered out through charcoal?
It was really insightful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info.
