Spelling M-U-D-P-I-E In Song

We need to start out by thanking our friend Cathy Keisha for introducing us to the Curious as a Cathy Mewsic Moves Me blog hop. Ever since we decided to participate a couple weeks ago by doing CK's "getting to know you" meme using only song titles from one artist or band, I've found myself listening to more music than I have in a long time, something that's been missing in my life. In my teens and early 20's music was one of my greatest passions, and rediscovering that passion has been a real joy.

This week's theme is "your choice" so we're going to participate in last week's challenge, which was spelling out your name using song titles. M-U-D-P-I-E to the tune of classic country from the 70's and 80's...here we go!

M- Meet Me In Montana-Marie Osmond & Dan Seals. No particular reason, but I've always loved this song.

U- Unwound-George Strait. King George's first big hit!

D- D-I-V-O-R-C-E-Tammy Wynette. When I was a little girl there was nothing I loved more than rocking a pair of shorts and cowgirl boots while belting out Tammy Wynette songs. This was one of my favorites, although I'm sure I had no idea what it meant. (My parents have photographic proof of this somewhere...hopefully it's permanently missing.)

P- Pancho & Lefty - Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard. This is such a great story song, and the video is like watching a mini western movie.

I- I May Never Get To Heaven-Conway Twitty. Any musical challenge we do on this blog will always include Conway. He's "it" for me in every way, and if I was ever told I could only listen to one artist's music for the rest of my life, I wouldn't even need to give it a second thought. This particular song is one of my top 5 favorites of his, and it went to #1 on the Billboard chart on my 2nd birthday in 1979! I chose this video of him performing it on Hee Haw because he's so insanely sexy in it.

E- Eleven Roses-Hank Williams Jr. I'm not a huge Hank Jr. (or Sr.) fan but I do love this song. It was a very different sound for him.

Who else is ready to give this challenge a shot?

We'd love to hear what you come up with!

  1. Cool picks! I'm not sure I could do this challenge - my human would pick all very loud heavy metal and alt rock songs, which aren't really in the spirit of me. Maybe she should do it with the name of the cat she was living with at the time she was a rock journalist. THAT would be totally appropriate.

  3. Melissa,

Yeehaw, so glad to have you on the dance floor this week! 'Meet Me in Montana' I do not remember and had I not notice Marie Osmond is the female vocals then I'd never guess. Oh, I recall Tammy Wynette's hit "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" playing when I was young and it always made me so sad. We were in Nashville last summer. It's only a little over three hours from Knoxville. It was fun to stand outside The Grand Ole Opry. We snapped some pictures while there before heading over to Opry Mills to do a bit of shopping. That's a big mall! I was a child bride when we got married the same year you turned two (1979). Your mewsic choices is the stuff my parents listened to and it hearing these put a warm feeling in my heart. Thanks for sharing them and for hitting the dance floor. Have a tunetastic week, my friend!

  5. Great choices! I haven't heard these songs in years. I'll have to give this challenge some thought to see if I can do it! :)

  7. This was so much fun, Mudpie! This here human's dad would be thrilled that you picked Pancho & Lefty as your P. At least one of the furbabies around here is going to be participating in this fun musical challenge. Purrs!

  10. TW loves the Townes van Zandt version of Pancho and Lefty. He wrote it. Also she believes Emmylou Harris does a cool version too. Thanks for joining us!

  11. I love this! I think it's great that you stayed within the country music genre. I was definitely toe-tapping along with most of these. It was great getting to know you through music. I spelled my name with songs last week, so this week I used artists. Stop on by to have a listen.

  13. Meet Me in Montana - it's been years since I've seen "that big Montana sky" and it really does have a big sky! (I'll never forget it). Was a nice duet, although I don't know about those palm trees that appeared in the video. "D-I-V-O-R-C-E is a classic and didn't we all spell out things we wanted to hide from our children? I also enjoyed the Conway Twitty song, although I am not a big country fan, it's good to stretch my musical horizons. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
