Meows from Mudpie!
The theme of the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop this week is Patriotic Songs. Country music and patriotic songs go together like peanut butter and jelly, so our choices were virtually endless. We ended up settling on a six pack of tunes that would make a pawsome soundtrack to any July 4th activities.

A little background info on our first pick: God Bless America Again was written in the late '60s as a response to all the turmoil in our country at the time. It has been recorded by many artists, but we chose the Conway & Loretta version (of course) which was the B-side to one of their big hits, The Letter, in 1976. Even though it was never meant to hit the charts it received significant airplay due to its release during the Bicentennial. (They performed it on tour in England a decade later changing the words to God Bless This Old World Again.) No matter which side of the political aisle you're on, it's relevant today too.

Simply a classic...
I've been very fortunate to see Toby perform this song live several times...
What are some of your favorite patriotic songs?
Fantastic list this week! Enjoy your holiday and see you again on Monday :)
ReplyDeleteMelissa,
ReplyDeleteYour patriotic song list is totally red, white, and blue! You introduced two songs to me with "Americana" & "It's America". It's possible I heard them before today but they just didn't ring any bells in my head. All the others I know quite well and appreciated your sharing them with the 4M gang. Have a fun, safe Independence Day and thanks for joining us on the dance floor, my friend!
We're feeling very pawtriotic after hearing all these songs. Great choices!
ReplyDeleteGreat patriotic post!! Funny thing, our National Anthem was playing on Mom's radio when we opened this. The station she listens to starts the new day playing it!
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
Thanks, Melissa. Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.” is a favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteThese are such perfect songs for this patriotic time of the year. I must say that I was really glad to see you included Johnny Cash. I am a huge fan of his music. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteAmazing songs. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteThat Ragged Old Flag by Johnny Cash always tears me up, says the housekeeper. Love this whole music idea you have going on and the song choices are great! Happy 4th Mudpie and Melissa! - Tom x
ReplyDeleteCountry musicians always have the best patriotic songs, nice choices.
ReplyDeleteMudpie, you look in red/white/blue!
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd be all over this theme! Later in Johnny's career he turned a bit more radical, didn't he. When I think of "Ragged Old Flag" I can only think of the flag from 9/11 with the firemen raising it over Ground Zero. TW still has those stamps. Looking good MP.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cathy... it looks like everybody came out to celebrate. Thanks for posting some tunes that I never heard before, but I posted a couple of the same ones. Great minds think alike as they say. Lee Greenwood has a huge hit on his hands I'd say because once you hear that song you cannot get it out of your head. It's awesome to say the least. Praise the Lord for Country! They hit every corner there is. Love it! Happy Fourth my friend. Have fun, and be careful. hugs
ReplyDeleteGreat song choices! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great roundup of songs!
ReplyDeleteGreat choices great job
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteGreat set of patriotic songs here. You can't go wrong with any Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty duet! They are two of the all-time greats.
I never heard of Moe Bandy and I'm really digging his song "Americana" for the second time right now.
I was also just turned on to Rodney Atkins' song "It's America" -- another new-to-me song and artist that I like so thanks for those!
Johnny Cash always rocks. I love to hear his voice. He's musical when he just simply talks...
Hope you had a great 4th! Have a good week. Hope to see you over at my place this week...

Got some great songs here. Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty... I never realized how much they worked together until recently, and they always sound good. And Johnny Cash with "Ragged Old Flag" is just wonderful. Great set here!
ReplyDeleteMoe Bandy was new to me - as someone who grew up in the biggest city in the United States the small town vibe of the video was so satisfying. I know the Johnny Cash and God Bless America Again came right out of the turbulent time I reached young adulthood in - a time that really tested our nation. Nice set - hope you had a happy 4th. ReplyDeleteYou did the theme proud, Melissa! Love all your song choices! Hope you had an awesome 4th of July! :) Thanks so much for the dance!
