Happy Birthday Darlin'

Our freebie topic this week for the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop is birthdays, specifically mine and my #1 guy's.

This past Saturday, September 1st, would've been Conway's 85th birthday, and this coming Saturday the 8th is my special day. I've always loved that our birthdays were exactly a week apart.

Each year on my birthday I don't need to hear the traditional "happy birthday" song. Nope, my day isn't complete until I hear Happy Birthday Darlin', his 23rd #1 record from 1979's smash Cross Winds album...

I thought it might be fun to take a look at the three #1 records Conway had in 1977, the year I was born...

I Can't Believe She Gives It All To Me - #1 on January 22nd

Play Guitar Play - #1 on May 7th

(This song is notable in that it's Conway's only "criminal" song...a theme that was very popular during the 1970s outlaw movement in country music. Conway would never be mistaken for an outlaw...the only thing he stole was hearts!)

I've Already Loved You In My Mind - #1 on September 24th

Earlier this year I was combing through Newspapers.com on a free trial, and imagine my shock to find an ad from my local paper announcing that Conway performed here in Vermont in May 1977!

My parents didn't go to the concert because of a family wedding that weekend, but mom likes to joke that given the the way I've always felt about him, if she had attended his concert while pregnant with me I probably would've been born on the spot just hearing his voice. She's most likely right!

  1. How am I not surprised that Conway Twitty played in Vermont when you were getting ready to be born! MOL

  2. One of the truly iconic voices in all of country music. Thanks for bringing Conway to mind and sharing his music with us.

  3. That must be very fun for you to share a birthday month with the Mr. Conway. Maybe you could throw a paw-ty with a Conway theme. -Valentine (& Mom) of Noir Kitty Mews

  10. I think it's only fitting that you and Conway share a birthday week. I'm thinking your mom's right, though, and that you would have been a May baby if she'd attended that concert. Conway also shared his exact birthday with my angle Rosie. I should get some Conway memorabilia for Rosie's memorial corner in my room. Happy birthday week!

  11. Melissa,

Happy belated Birthday to you, dearie! I hope you had a furrtastic day celebrating. :)

You were born the year DH graduated high school. DH started college the September you entered the world. You're seven years younger than my baby sister who's birth month is June. Incidentally, we got married on my sister's birthday. Talk about a memorable birthday for her. She probably hated me for it! lol

I think of your Conway features the only one that I remember is "Play Guitar Play" so it was funtastic hearing all of your song choices. Thanks for sharing and hitting the dance floor with the 4M gang. I'm running late. Life tossed a couple of situations my way that I'm dealing with and no doubt will be going all directions this week to regroup. Have a boogietastic week and I'll be seeing you around! ;)

  15. Conway Twitty and the Twitty Birds? Sorry, but I found that so very special, given that (sorry) I love birds. And happy birthday to you! (My favorite, by the way, was Play Guitar Play). Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
