April Retro Country Rewind #MewsicMovesMe

Because my favorite music is the 70s and 80s country I grew up with, Mudpie and I decided it might be fun to use a freebie week in the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop each month to look back at favorite songs that hit #1 during that month from 30, 35, 40 plus years ago. (30 years back is probably as recent as we'll get because in my opinion the 90s is when country music changed - not for the better - and it hasn't been the same since.)

This might mean (gasp!) some weeks without Conway, but I'm really looking forward to upcoming months this year because 1979 saw 3 of my all-time favorite songs of his hit #1, including one next month.

30 Years Ago - 1989, Baby's Gotten Good at Goodbye, George Strait
(Always one of my favorite Strait songs.)

35 Years Ago - 1984, Don't Make It Easy for Me, Earl Thomas Conley
(Sadly ETC just passed away a couple weeks ago. He had such a unique voice.)

40 Years Ago - 1979, Where Do I Put Her Memory?, Charlie Pride

45 Years Ago - 1974, A Very Special Love Song, Charlie Rich
(If Conway didn't already own my heart, this guy just might be next in line. He recorded the same kind of heart melting country love songs as Conway did that I'm such a sucker for.)

50 Years Ago - 1969, Woman of the World (Leave My World Alone), Loretta Lynn

We hope you enjoy our new feature, and let us know if you have a favorite this month!

  3. Really enjoyed playing these and they brought back memories for me, especially Charlie Rich.
The real heartbreaker, tear jerker songs for me are those by George Jones..The Grand Tour and
He Stopped Loving Her Today, most requested from my radio days. I can't post the links here, but I'm getting ready to head over to YouTube right after posting this comment!
Thanks - great feature, Melissa and Mudpie!

  4. Melissa,

I had nearly forgotten about Charlie Pride. He had a very nice voice. Mewsic has changed a lot in the past 30-years and not always for the better, too. Thanks for the stroll down country memory lane with these hits and for joining the 4M gang on the dance floor, my dear! ;) Have a boogietastic week.

  6. You have chosen some great classic country artists and their music. I just doesn't get any better than George Strait. I was always a fan of Charlie Pride. Thanks for sharing this blast from the past.

  14. You gots any Emmylou? Going retro is a good idea. Loretta Lynn song wasn't half bad even if you can't dance to it.

  16. You have totally rocked the house with these wonderful ol' favorites. I haven't heard Charlie Pride in some time. Great job my friend. Hope you had a wonderful Easter.

  17. You can so tell how different country music is nowadays when you listen to the songs that are 45-50 years old. I'm not familiar with any of these songs but if I had to pick a favorite, it would have been Earl Thomas Conley , someone I had never even heard of before this post. And then you tell me he just passed away. Ah, well. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  18. Ooooh! Nice choices! My hubby used to be part of a country band for 9 years when we lived in PA - since they played at AMVETS and VFW's and veteran shindigs, they often played these songs by request - so thanks for the memories, and the dance! ;)
