Loretta was always playing in my house growing up as she was my parents' favorite singer. So many memories are tied to her music. One of my prized possessions is the paperback copy of Coal Miner's Daughter that mom was given when she was in the hospital after having a c-section when I was born. She gave it to me to include in my Conway collection. The first time my parents left me in the care of a babysitter was to go see the Coal Miner's Daughter movie when it hit the theater, and I've probably seen it at least a dozen times myself. I saw her in concert only once in the early 80s but I was very young and I'm sad to say I don't really remember anything about it.
Of course I have to start my Loretta post with one of her duets with Conway - their cover of Freddie Hart's Easy Lovin'. I chose this video because the chemistry between them just jumps off the screen and shows why everyone thought they were a couple in real life. The way he looks at Loretta when he sings the line "upon your pretty shoulders there's a pair of angel wings" makes me weak in the knees. (The fact that mom never took notice of Conway until I came along has always had me convinced that I was adopted.)
One of my family's favorite stories took place right after my parents got married in the early 70s. My mom came out of the bathroom and saw that Loretta was on TV. She yelled out, "Loretta Lynn!" and Dad, asleep in his chair as usual, got up and made a beeline for the front door. Mom asked where he was going to which he replied, "To let her in!" Needless to say they started laughing so hard they never did get to see Loretta!
A few of my other Loretta favorites -
I have an old VHS tape of the entire show this performance with her son came from. I never erased it because I loved the song so much...
I hope you enjoyed our Loretta selections this week. She's extra special to me not only because she's such an important part of Conway's story, but also because she plays such an important part in my own personal history.
She's a true national treasure.

Such an amazing lady, she sure doesn't look 87.
The housekeeper loved the movie Coal Miner's Daughter and played a lot of Loretta's music while in radio. Loretta sang true country as did Conway. A nice tribute to a special lady and the housekeeper's now getting on mushy over the music and kissing my head..Mudpie, what do you do when peeps get all clingy?? - Tom x
She truly is a national treasure.

I love Loretta Lynn! You did good with choosing her songs, love it!
A lot of great entertainers were born in 1932. Loretta is a particularly good singer, and like her frequent singing partner Conway Twitty, did the kind of country I like.
Great tribute to a great lady!
"Let her in!" That made my human LOL!
WOW 87, GOD bless her and I love the story about her done by... ughhhhh that blonde chick... oh darn, what's her name. Hmmmm that's it Sissy Spacek! Yep, I had to look it up! ~hehehe~ I really enjoyed that movie for sure especially when she met.... oh darn, I'm battin' a thousand here what was her name... Patsy Cline and she wrote that tune about don't take my man even though you can etc or something like that... I better quit while I'm ahead. have a great day girlfriend!
Whoa! Happy Birthday Loretta! The other day was Tammy Wynette's b-day and I only know that cos a friend on FB posted about eleventy hunnert of her songs and pics on his page. I wonder of Loretta is big with gay men too. When Tammy died in her early 50's, she looked about 90.
What a great birthday tribute to a country legend! From one coal miner's daughter to another, "Happy Birthday, Loretta Lynn!" Thanks for boogieing with the 4M gang!
Great theme. Coal Miner's Daughter is one of my favorite movies.
They truly don't make music like that anymore!
I have always been a fan of her music. Happy birthday to Loretta Lynn!
That story about your parents is too funny!
We love Loretta Lynn especially when she sings with the boys :D The story of your Dad made us laugh :D Extra Pawkisses for now🐾😽💞
Loretta Lynn is a national treasure. Happy birthday to her!
So unbelievable that Loretta Lynn is 87. Maybe she will be like Vera Lynn and still be singing at 101. What a life she has had! Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
