Late Monday night Mudpie and I were cuddling in bed getting ready to turn out the light when I checked in with Facebook one last time. What I found shocked me. Crockett, one of the stars of the Lone Star Cats blog, had unexpectedly rushed off to the Rainbow Bridge, the victim of a tragic accident. He was only 5 years old.

As my thoughts turned to his sweet mama Kimberley and the fur family he left behind, memories of the night I lost Truffles rushed back. She passed away due to a sudden illness, not an accident, but to anyone who has lost a beloved pet in the blink of an eye the shock is unforgettable and always ready to resurface.
Times like these are reminders of how fragile life is, not to mention how unfair it can be at times, and that we should never take a single moment with those we love for granted because we never know when it will be the last.
Mudpie is blowing a raspberry in your honor today, Crockett.
We'll miss your sweet little face so much.
What a lovely tribute to dear Crockett!
ReplyDeleteMudpie, that raspberry is the purrfect tribute.

This is a wonderful tribute. We were so shocked to hear that dear sweet Crockett had crossed. Our thoughts are with his family and furriends xxx
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful way to remember sweet Crockett, it's so very sad.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sad about Crockett. Our hearts go out to his mom. What a nice way to pay tribute to him, Mudpie.
ReplyDeleteIt's heartbreaking, Mudpie, we hardly haven't slept and we were thinking of all the kitties that we've known, who left for the Rainbowbridge so young, we saw your darling Truffles too <3 Love your tribute <3 Soft Pawkisses to comfort you allπππ
ReplyDeleteMelissa,
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't know Crockett (love the name as it's the same as my late maternal grandpa) or his furmom but am saddened to hear the mews nonetheless. All life is precious human and non-human. Saying prayers for the humans who loved him best and those in the blogging community who came to know him, too. Blessings to all!

Saying goodbye is never easy but a sudden loss is even worse. Sending sympathy.
ReplyDeleteI can't get Crockett and his mom out of my mind. We are sending purrs and prayers their way, but we wish we could do more to take the pain away. The Rainbow Bridge must have really needed Crockett. Mudpie, your raspberry is such a sweet tribute to sweet Crockett.
ReplyDeleteA great tribute Mudpie and a reminder to hold those you love closely as we never know how long we, or they, may have.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind post. Crockett wuz my momma, Donna's, kitty, but he was everyone in the family's kitty, too. He followed my momma everywhere and always sat in her lap. She blames herself, even if everyone tells her not to. We cannot quit crying. Us pups keep looking for him, and Travis is traumatized-- we think he saw the accident, he isn't eating well. This was so sudden, so unfair, and so devastating. Bless you for your kindness.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful tribute to Crockett. He was a force of nature and a real personality. We here at Catscue fell in love with him at first site - he will be greatly missed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a thoughtful tribute. So many loved him ! Purrs.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely tribute to Crockett and the razz is perfect. We get to know each other through our blogs and when a dear friend is called to the Bridge, it is like losing one of our own. My heart goes out to Crockett's family.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tribute to Crockett. We are heartbroken over his passing.

Beautiful post. XO
ReplyDeleteNice raspberry for Crockett, MP. Even though it was no one's fault, this is the most tragic thing we've heard since my dear furrend Smokey 8 got called to the Bridge. Of course it was mind numbing when Nicky left us so soon after Autumn.
ReplyDeleteLovely tribute! We were shocked too. Ya read about strange weerd things happening ta Beins, but it is rare fer things like that ta happen ta us kitties.
ReplyDeleteThat's a super special tribute to Crockett. We're so sad he had to go to the Bridge so soon.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. Life is so unpredictable, we have to make the most of each day. RIP Crockett, you were loved and will remain in everyone's hearts. - Tom x
ReplyDeleteHe was a fine young man cat and your tribute is a gracious and heartfelt one.
ReplyDeleteGood for you both.
Crockett's passing is so tragic. It is unbelievably difficult to lose a kitty. This was a great memorial, Mudpie. Manna, Dexter, and I will certainly be missing all of the Crockett raspberries.
