The theme of this week's Mewsic Moves Me blog hop is songs by your favorite American Idol or The Voice contestant. To be perfectly honest, I've never watched either show one single time, but a quick YouTube search revealed a couple contestants who chose Conway songs recently so I checked them out. These are my thoughts...
Mudpie says HER voice is best!
Just this past season Gyth Rigdon performed Conway's Goodbye Time on The Voice. I'll let you decide, but it doesn't speak to me. He's just too young to convey the meaning of the song.
Here's Conway's classic performance from 1988's TNN Music City News Awards. The emotion he puts into this song takes my breath away, and the audience reaction when he launches into the chorus gives me chills. He won the Living Legend Award on this particular night with his whole family, even his mother, in the audience.
Back in 2015 Barrett Baber put his own spin on I'd Love to Lay You Down. This one I like...
but it still can't compare to the original. Be still my heart.

Interesting choices. Covers of your favorite artist. They do deliver interesting performances.
Melissa,
Gyth wasn't my favorite singer on Team Blake. His voice doesn't speak to me because it's really not unique or memorable. It won't make me say, hey I want to buy his mewsic! I don't even remember Barrett. His voice is a bit too country for my ears. Great selections for this week's theme. Thanks for sharing the 4M dance floor with me, darlin'. Have a boogietastic week!
Yep, we had never watched either of those programs but you did some darn good research!
Many MANY years ago we watched American Idol. I can remember Abby lying in my lap, that tells you how long ago it was. Seems like a different world now VS then.
I'm a huge fan of The Voice and I'm really sorry to hear Adam is leaving when The Voice comes back. :( But the show must go on as they say... but they still have Blake. Love your pickins' and thanks for the boogie.
I don't watch any reality television and must admit I get annoyed when a classic song is re-done. For instance, when Allison Krause sang Keith Whitley's When You Say Nothing At All, it just wasn't as good IMO. Same with Whitney Houston doing Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You.
We used to watch American Idol many years ago. The Voice we watch more regularly now. We know Mudpie would take first place every time, on any show. Thanks for sharing the videos. Have a great day.

I vote for Mudpie.
Because her sweet face is worth 1000 songs.
I haven't watched American Idol in years but always love music clippings!
I knew you would work Conway in somehow :)
We have a feeling Mudpie is right! Fifteen years ago when I was in residential treatment for anorexia, the girls on my floor insisted on watching AI - and every girly show on TV. You aren't missing much with AI.
The first kid didn't have the voice to sing that one. The second guy's voice was OK, but the tempo was all wrong. Have to agree with Mudpie here...
It must take some nerve to try to tackle a Conway song in a singing competition. Those are mighty big shoes to fill. That being said, Mudpie, we will always vote for you!
I thought you'd like this theme since it seems many of the contestants are country from what I've heart. You found a way to work CT into it too.
Thank you for stopping by our blog post for Rosa. It means a lot to know others care.

It's amazing how many talented people there are out there. It's cool that these shows give them a chance to shine.
In your mini Battle of the Singers - Conway all the way on both. Not even close, for either song. I watched American Idol in the early years. I've never watched The Voice except for if I run into some of the blind auditions, I'll watch those as I do like the concept of the blind auditions. I actually wish other singing songs did that so you are able to focus just on the...well, voice. Anyway, I'm not a great country fan but Conway's voice is one of a kind.
