August Retro Country Rewind #MewsicMovesMe

This spring we premiered our new mewsic feature "Retro Country Rewind," a look back at favorite songs that hit #1 during that month from 30, 35, 40 plus years ago. We were so happy that you guys seemed to enjoy it! Now let's take a look at August for this freebie week in the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop...

45 Years Ago - 1974, As Soon As I Hang Up the Phone, Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn

Conway wrote this song, and it turned out to be one of his and Loretta's biggest hits. It's a spoken word/sung duet, and when they recorded it Conway was in one room on the telephone while Loretta was in the recording booth. When they did the song live in concert one would be on stage, the other off stage, singing into telephones. It was even a #1 hit in South Africa!!!

35 Years Ago - 1984, Mama He's Crazy, The Judds

Well, there are men, but ones like him
Are few and far between

Hmm...I wonder who that line makes me think of?

35 Years Ago - 1984, Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper's Dream), The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

30 Years Ago - 1989, Sunday in the South, Shenandoah

This song almost makes me wish I lived in the south...except for that whole heat and bugs thing...

30 Years Ago - Timber, I'm Falling In Love, Patty Loveless

One of my all-time favorite female artists...

Let us know if you have a favorite this month!

  2. Melissa and Mudpie,

I think my favorite is 'Sunday in the South'. I loved watching the mewsic video because it reminds me so much of my life as a kid. Sundays were a time to spend with family around the dinner table after church or purrhaps at church with the whole congregation in fun fellowship. Those were sweet, sweet times. Thanks for sharing some beautiful country tunes from the past. Have a boogietastic week, my furriends!

  7. Awwww that first song is a real tear jerker! Dang, Conway Twitty is a real jerk... hahahahaha so pretty! Bet that was a real tear jerker back in its day! Wow, I really love the Judds. Wow, look how young Wynona Judd is WOW! Just look at that video. These are so cool. Wynona looks just like her mama! Always did like the Judds. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band hubby has a few CD's of these guys, but not many he's not in to country... just me. Shenandoah - Sunday In The South - nice song, but I haven't heard this one either. Patty Loveless I've heard this one before Woo Hoo! There's hope for me yet! hahaha Cute song. Thanks for rockin' with us. HUGS!

  11. Fun collection - I liked the Conway Twitty/Loretta Lynn duo and the Patty Loveless the best. I lived in the South too long to not think of the heat and the bugs with the church Sunday dinner song. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
