The theme of this week's Mewsic Moves Me blog hop is a playlist in which the first letters of the songs spell out ROOT BEER, in honor of the birthday of Charles E. Hires (1851-1937), the first commercial brewer of root beer.
I don't drink much soda but I do enjoy a can of root beer every now and then, particularly in the form of root beer floats. I especially love the A&W Restaurant chain with their car hop service because I firmly believe I was born too late and should've grown up in the 1950s.
We had a lot of fun putting this playlist together! I added notes to a few of my favorites.
R- Ride Me Back Home, Willie Nelson
I'm going to stun everyone and start with a Willie Nelson tune this week. I've never been a huge fan, but my former next door neighbor was as obsessed with him as I am with Conway. The title track of his latest album, Ride Me Back Home, is an homage to the horse. Did you know dozens of rescue horses live on Willie's Texas ranch?
O- Over Thirty (Not Over the Hill), Conway Twitty
Songs like this are one of the many reasons women loved Conway so much (and still do).
He never recorded a song that put a woman down, and he understood us in a way most male singers don't.

O- Oh, Pretty Woman, Roy Orbison
T- That's the Way Love Goes, Merle Haggard
B- Baby I Lied, Deborah Allen
I've loved this song since I was a little girl...

E- Everytime You Touch Me I Get High, Charlie Rich
I must say, if Conway didn't already completely own my heart, this guy might have had a good shot at it. Such a beautiful voice.

We hope you enjoy our choices this week!

Those are good choices, Melissa!
Nice playlist
Our mom LOVES Keith Urban, and loves that song by him. What a fun playlist.
Great songs. Thanks for sharing them.
Great picks! Mr. Hires says "thank you"!
Those were really good choices and a super cute Mudpie!
We love the playlist, Mudpie. Some root beer does sound delicious right now. Our favorite was Baby I Lied from Deborah Allen. Thanks for the share. Have a fantastic rest of your week.
World of Animals
Purrfect Monday music! Mudpie, you are such a cutie!
WE like Willie Nelson. We saw Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne with Roy Orbison and the Eagles as his band. TW says she thinks she had this entire show on VHS tape and it got tossed with the rest of them.
Gereat set of tunes you put done thanks for rockin my house today!!
All great choices. I especially like Pretty Woman.
Love your picks! Especially Roy!
That isn't my style of music, but I always do love Willie Nelson's voice...
You know what really goes with a root beer float?! A Mudpie! We're biased though ...
I love the Pretty Woman song! :)
Melissa,
I had to chuckle of Conway's song title 'Over Thirty (Not Over the Hill)'. I'm not sure when one is 'over the hill'. I for one keep pushing that off every year. lol Thanks for bringing some great classic country tunes to the 4M mix this week. I enjoyed hearing these all again after many years. Have a boogietastic week, my furriend!
Your music choices always bring back so many memories. I remember hearing so many of these songs at home and in the car with my parents growing up. And I did not know that Willie Nelson had rescue horses. That makes me so happy!
Dang, what a great job you have rocked us with.. YOU HAVE TOTALLY ROCKED THE HOUSE! Keith Urban, Mr. Adkins for sure, whoa CHARLIE RICH for sure rocked the house, Deb Allen in Baby I lied, HOLY COW & MERLE HAGGARD? WOO HOO & A COUPLE OF KINGS OF COUNTRY CONWAY TWITTY & WILLIE NELSON??? SO COOL & A REFRESHING ROOT BEER TOO??? MY FAVORITE!!! YOU ROCK!
As a rock lover, I have to admit, I enjoyed the two crossover hits by Roy Orbison and Deborah Allen the most. But a close third was a tie between Willie Nelson with his ode to horses and Trace Adkins, who sang such a sweet song.Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
I love root beer floats! What a fun music challenge.
