40 Years Ago - 1979, Happy Birthday Darlin', Conway Twitty
Happy Birthday Darlin' was a huge record for Conway 40 years ago this month, staying at the top of the charts for the final 3 weeks of the year. What I love about this song is that he sings the chorus but speaks the verses. Call me crazy but I find his speaking voice to be just a dreamy as his singing voice. People have often said Conway could've sung the phone book and made it sound good, but to me he also could've just *read* the phone book out loud and I would've been in heaven.
45 Years Ago - 1974, She Called Me Baby, Charlie Rich
Sometimes I feel like I choose Charlie Rich songs for this feature nearly as frequently as Conway, but I really do love his voice.
35 Years Ago - 1984, Your Heart's Not In It, Janie Fricke
Janie was one of the most popular female country singers of the 1980s. Her career started singing background vocals on records for many big name artists (including Conway) before her unique voice finally got the attention it deserved.
30 Years Ago - 1989, If Tomorrow Never Comes, Garth Brooks
I'm going to be perfectly honest and say I'm not a Garth Brooks fan. In my personal opinion he was the start of the drastic changes in country music back in the '90s that have only gotten worse as time goes by, leading it to become unrecognizable. That being said, his debut record was a beauty.

ReplyDeleteA real good set. Conway's always great, but so's the Silver Fox, and Janie's voice is gorgeous. Even Garth stuck to the formula here.

As for me, I choose write my essay for students. If we draw an analogy between demotivation and crime, then intermediary teachers will be accomplices in the unwanted act, people involved. And you will have to come to terms with this, or urgently find an optimal way out of the impasse for everyone.
