But of all the pictures I've taken of the two loves of my life together, this one is my favorite. Mudpie is gazing up at my new clock, seeming to say either, "I know how much Mommy loves you and I'll try to be more understanding" OR "what's the big deal about you, anyways?" I choose to believe it's the former.
Even after all these years this is a very difficult day for me. I still remember my 15 year old self sitting on the couch that morning, hearing the news on my ever-present portable radio, thinking it couldn't possibly true. I had tickets to finally seem him in concert in September. He couldn't be gone. As devastated as I was then, I still didn't feel as deeply about him as I do now, so I don't even know how I'd handle it today.
It's said that music is the language of the soul, and Conway's voice touches my soul. He was taken from us far, far, far too soon, yet he continues to live on in the hearts of so many, as all truly great artists do.
Feline Friday is simple to join. All you have to do is:
Post a picture, drawing, cartoon or video of a cat (They may be silly or cute).
I understand at least a little bit. Music has always helped me feel, deal, and express my feelings. Ironic then that I've never been to a big show. I remember the Summer before college, I got tickets to Smashing Pumpkins and like a week before the concert, one of the band members had an overdose. It's not the same as your situation - I didn't hold SP above all other metal/alternative-ish bands - but I know I missed out.
ReplyDeleteMum can definitely relate to this post. She feels the same about Elvis Presley, John Lennon and George Michael. She was only 11 when Elvis died.
ReplyDeleteWe love country music too and totally understand where you're coming from!!! Our human is from Oklahoma and it's really big there!
ReplyDeleteEven though he was a celebrity and not a close family member, deaths like this can still cause much sadness. Sending purrs...
ReplyDeleteIt is hard when our idols die, especially when they die too soon.
ReplyDeleteMy big shock was John Lennon.
Be sure to get some extra Mudpie hugs today. Purrs
When something or someone touches us deeply, that is love.
ReplyDeleteMusic touches the soul in a magical way. When Kurt Cobaine, Jonathan Melvoin, Michael Hutchence, Scott Weland, and Chester Bennington, (just to name a few) died, they left a hole in the world.
ReplyDeleteThat photo is just too cute! Yes, music does touch the soul. There are artists and songs that will always transport us to another place and time.
ReplyDeleteSweet photo. (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
I'm so sorry this day will be so hard for you. Makes it even worse that you had tickets to see him.
ReplyDeleteBig healing hug.
Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.
Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. ♥
Those things are really, really tough and it's sad you never got to see that concert.
ReplyDeleteWe understand that feeling, Mudpie, it's like they were in your purrsonal life
ReplyDelete. Soft Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend🐾😽💞
Oh Melissa that is really sad that you didn't get to see Conway in concert. But that is a real sweet photo of Mudpie with that clock.
ReplyDeleteThat is really a great photo of your two loves. We must say that by visiting your blog for the last couple of years. You introduced us to Conway's music and have been listening more often to his music. Thanks for the share. Have a wonderful upcoming weekend.

Or she figures if he is gonna hang around, maybe he'll have treats.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet photo!
ReplyDeleteThat is a sweet photo of Mudpie gazing adoringly at the clock.
ReplyDeleteI think every year I respond to this post by commenting about TW's fave NY Yankee dying in a plane crash on Aug 2, 1979. She couldn't watch a Yankee game for a decade. She also felt that way when she woke up that December morning to find out John Lennon had been shot and killed. Maybe if someday you get to visit his museum or the Opry or someplace special to him, you'll feel closure.
ReplyDeleteSome memories of people or events stay with us forever. And we each have our own. For me it was the deaths of John and Robert Kennedy and the Challenger Shuttle explosion. To this day, I can recall the image of the speaker box in school saying John had been killed in Dallas. I can picture the box in unusual detail.
