Stuck in Vermont at the Kitty Korner Cafe

Meows from Mudpie!

You may remember that last year Mommy was super excited about a new cat cafe scheduled to open an hour away from us, Vermont's first!

Well of course the virus put everything on hold but the Kitty Korner Cafe opened in August and has already had over 150 adoptions! Isn't that pawsome???

Mommy hasn't been able to visit yet but Friday night our local news ran this fun feature on the cafe that we wanted to share for everyone to enjoy. We're so proud to live in a state that is so successful in getting kitties adopted we can help out other parts of the country!

Mudpie's answers:

1. I never have time to finish my naps. Mommy is always waking me up with kisses.

2. My nap can wait. I love kisses too.

Mommy's answers:

3. Pet adoption is a cause that is dear to my heart.

4. At this very moment, I am trying to figure out how I'm going to get everything done over the next few weeks. Spring is my busiest time at work and it's invariably when everything else hits the fan too.

Blogging Bloopers #PetPhotoFails

Meows from Mudpie!

Thank you for joining us for this month's edition of the Pet Photo Fails Blog Hop! Has spring sprung in your neck of the woods yet? This past week has been in the high 60s and low 70s here and I've been wearing myself out trying to catch all the window whiffies. Mommy isn't happy that I've already stopped snuggling with her at night.

Coincidentally, today's photo fails were taken earlier this month when I was determined to cuddle Mommy regardless of what she was trying to do. This particular evening we were visiting some of our friends' blogs and Mommy had to balance the laptop on the couch beside us on top of some paperwork. There was some griping about inconvenience but I didn't really care.

Anyways, before long I positioned myself by the laptop like I was reading the screen all by myself. I was engrossed in Summer's exciting life! It was super adorable but try as she might Mommy just couldn't get a good shot. The lighting was bad but her main problem was she couldn't twist herself with me on her lap without disturbing me and making me jump down. You can see what I was doing in these pictures, but they really don't do the moment justice.

Those are our bloopers...let's see yours!

Unboxing March's CatLadyBox

The theme of March's CatLadyBox was Spring Time!...here's what was inside!

Featured Cat Lady Artist: Louise Pigott, cat mom to Pearl, Fifi and Olive

Poppy Cat Stainless Steel Water Bottle: This is one of my favorite CatLadyBox items EVER. The colorful artwork by Karen Obuhanych just makes me happy, and while I'll be using the bottle, I plan to keep the cute box it came in for storage in my bedroom.

Kitty Cat Wireless Charging Pad: I've never had one of these before, but now that I do of course it must be cat shaped! Such a cute spot for devices to take a catnap and get recharged.

"Be Kind" Shirt: Sweet and simple message, purrfect for spring.

Purrfect Cat Bamboo Trivet: Not sure if I'll use this in the kitchen as intended or just stand it somewhere as cute kitty decor, but I love it!

Meownarch Butterfly & Lucky Pot O' Gold Catnip Toys: I just opened the box on Monday and Mudpie hasn't had chance to check out her toys yet, but they're both small and bopable, just the way she likes them, plus...feathers!

Smelling Spring #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

This picture was NOT supposed to work. Mommy snapped it with the sun shining so brightly on me that she couldn't see a thing on her phone screen, yet it turned out so artsy and dramatic we absolutely ADORE it!

Who Rained On Mudpie's Parade? #CaturdayArt

Visit more artsy kitties at Athena's Caturday Art blog hop!

And now our answers (all answered by Mommy this week) for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. I look forward to the opening of creemee stands every spring. (That's soft serve ice cream to all the non-Vermonters out there!)

2. The highlight of my week was finding a cute pair of animal print flats on clearance at Walmart for $1. On the same shopping trip I discovered Temptations now has their own line of Mudpie's beloved squeezies, so that was the highlight of HER week!

3. I think old-fashioned is the word that best describes me. I don't see that as a negative either, it's just the way I am. There are so many things about today's world I will never be able to accept.

4. Nothing melts my heart like Mudpie. Cats in general make me melt, and everything about Conway turns me into a puddle, but my little girl is at the top of the list.

Truffles & Tragedies by Gayle Leeson - Blog Tour with Character Guest Post and Giveaway

Down South Cafe owner Amy Flowers learns her chocolate truffles might not be the only things her patrons find "out of this world."

When her cousin, Jackie, asks her to give a presentation to her online class, Amy thinks all she has to worry about is speaking before a group. But then the nitpicky professor collapses. He has been murdered, and hot-tempered Jackie is the prime suspect. Some online forums are even speculating that the professor was an extra-terrestrial, so Amy must sort out fact from fiction to get to the truth.

Certain the real killer is setting Jackie up, will Amy be able to outwit the killer and save her cousin?

Guest Post by Princess Eloise the Cat

Hello, Mudpie:

Don’t be intimidated because I’m royalty. I don’t think my lineage sets me on a pedestal. Being a cat does that.

I live with Amy Flowers, who owns the Down South Café. Amy is a sweet girl, and I like her okay. She makes sure I get all the attention I want and plenty to eat and drink. But she’s not my favorite. My favorite human in the world is Amy’s mother, Jenna. But when Jenna’s mom died, Jenna moved into the house on the hill above Amy’s place to live with her aunt. Since Aunt Bess is allergic to cats—huge eye roll here because really…am I right?—I had to stay here at Amy’s house. I guess the aunt was too old to rehome because, honestly, I don’t know who else would have her at this point. She’s quite the handful. At least, Jenna is close by, and I get to see her all the time.

Amy has been dating a great guy lately, and I like him a lot. His name is Ryan, and he’s a police officer. Whenever he comes to visit, I hop onto his lap. It’s funny because it makes Amy a little jealous because she wishes I liked her that much. Between you and me, that’s one of the reasons I do it. Also, he has strong, muscular thighs. I knead and knead and knead, and then I curl up into a ball and doze. Purrfection.

I enjoy lying in the windowsill, lying on the chair by the living room window, lying on the kitchen chair that’s closest to the wall, and lying on my bed—although I spend the least amount of time there. I’d rather be up a little higher, especially when I want to avoid pats and licks and doggie breath, if you know what I mean. I like Rory, the terrier, okay. Or, at least, I do now. When he was a puppy, I referred to him as Rory, the terror. In fact, I thought that’s what the humans were saying when someone would ask what type of dog he was. But I came to realize they were saying terrier, and he’s grown up to the point where he’s tolerable. And he’s good for Amy. She needs someone willing to be picked up and cuddled at her whim—that’s not me.

Admittedly, though, I’ve been staying a little closer to her lately. There has been some trouble involving her cousin, Jackie. Jackie is the granddaughter of Aunt Bess—who I’ve already told you about. I’m not terribly keen on Jackie and her boyfriend, Roger, but I’d allow them to feed me if Amy happened to be out of town and Jenna wasn’t available. Amy loves them, though, especially Jackie. So, since Amy has been worried and sad about whatever is going on with Jackie, I’ve been staying close in case Amy needs me. She’s a good kid, and I appreciate her more than I let on. I have to say, though, I hope this ordeal gets put behind us soon. A girl needs her beauty rest, especially when that girl is a princess.

March Retro Country Rewind #MewsicMovesMe

It's been a couple years since we premiered our mewsic feature "Retro Country Rewind," a look back at favorite songs that hit #1 during that month from 30, 35, 40 plus years ago. This year we're delving into #1 hits from 1971, 1976, 1981, and so on. Let's take a look at March for this freebie week in the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop...

50 Years Ago - 1971, After the Fire is Gone, Conway & Loretta

An important song in the history of country music - Conway & Loretta's first single as a duo.
It hit #1 and went on to win a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group...

35 Years Ago - 1986, I Could Get Used To You, Exile

35 Years Ago - 1986, What's A Memory Like You (Doing in a Love Like This), John Schneider

I'm such a huge fan of John's voice and wish he had stayed with country music.
Conway also recorded this song but never released it as a single.

30 Years Ago - 1991, Loving Blind, Clint Black

30 Years Ago - 1991, I'd Love You All Over Again, Alan Jackson

We hope you enjoyed our choices this month!
Let us know if you have a favorite.

Signs of Spring #CaturdayArt

And now our answers (all answered by Mommy this week) for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. I have given up trying to figure out why so many horrible people exist. Animal abusers - I'm looking at you!

2. On St. Patrick's Day, I don't do anything special.

3. I get cranky when I witness people doing stupid things while driving.

4. Mudpie is my good luck charm. I don't really think there's any such thing as good or bad luck, but getting to be her mom makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

Fun Feline Finds: A Yawn for Coffee

Meows from Mudpie!

Have you heard the horrible news that we have to set our clocks ahead an hour this weekend and therefore lose a precious hour of sleep? (Although I'll tell you a little secret...at our house we move the clocks ahead AFTER we get up at our regular time on Sunday morning because there's nowhere either of us needs to be!)

In honor of this most wicked weekend, how purrfect is this image from our friends at Georgia's Cat Corner?

It's available on a variety of merchandise including towels, pot holders, tote bags, and note pads.

Cats and coffee...what could be better?

********************************************************************************

We are not being compensated for this post. We received an email from Georgia's Cat Corner, loved the line of merchandise, and wanted to share since it's such a great fit for our blog.

NASCAR Driver Teams Up with Best Friends Animal Society to Help Shelter Animals

Many thanks to our friends at 15 and Meowing for bringing this news story to our attention!

Ally Financial, Alex Bowman, driver of the Ally-sponsored No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE of Hendrick Motorsports, and Best Friends Animal Society are teaming up to improve animal welfare across the U.S.

Ally will donate $1,000 to a shelter in each city that hosts a NASCAR Cup Series race—with a total of $33,000 being given to Best Friends-affiliated shelters.

“Knowing each week when we go into a new race market that we are helping a local shelter is going to be special,” said Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, in a press release announcing the donations. “Having a rescue pup myself, Roscoe, I know firsthand how special it feels when you sign those adoption papers and you know you are going to give that pet a great life.”

The donations start with the NASCAR event at Phoenix Raceway on March 14. Bowman, a strong supporter of animal rescue, will drive a Best Friends-inspired paint scheme in honor of the hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats the nonprofit works to save.

At a future date, Best Friends will auction off Bowman’s race helmet to benefit the organization.

Bowman, who has a rescue dog at home, will personally match each of Ally’s $1,000 donations to local shelters in NASCAR race markets.

Ally will increase its Best Friends donation to $10,000 in any community where Bowman wins a race in 2021. These collective donations will provide a boost to dozens of no-kill shelters and will help fund vital efforts, such as spays and neuters, trap-neuter-return programs, shelter adoptions, educating the public about animal welfare, adoption events and more.

Halo Animal Rescue in Avondale, Arizona, will receive the donation for the NASCAR Cup Series event at Phoenix Raceway, which Bowman considers his home track, having grown up in Tucson, Arizona.

A leader in the no-kill movement, Best Friends works in collaboration with its nationwide network of members and partners to “Save Them All.” The nonprofit is actively working to ensure that every shelter in the country is no-kill by 2025, meaning all shelters receive the community support needed to save every dog and cat who can be saved.

Raising Humans #MewsicMovesMe

It's a freebie week in the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop and we're only featuring one song because it's so special...

It's probably been about 5 years since I listened to today's country music. A couple weeks ago I was looking at a Billboard chart and hardly recognized a single name, yet I don't feel like I'm missing a thing.

Then last weekend I was watching a show on the Circle Network and Easton Corbin was talking about a hit song for him called Raising Humans. I was intrigued when he explained it was about dogs, and after hearing a performance clip of the last verse I had to hear the entire song.

Grab a tissue and listen...

And now our answers (all answered by Mommy this week) for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. Nothing is better than curling up and taking a nap with a cat.

2. I keep my Christmas tree ornaments in a pair of Chewy boxes that date back to their Blogger Outreach Program days. One came addressed to Truffles, the other to Mudpie.

3. Music makes me feel energized.

4. I would advise others to appreciate the little things in life. They truly are the big things in the end.

Unboxing February's CatLadyBox

The theme of February's CatLadyBox was Meowlentine's Day...here's what was inside!

Featured Cat Lady Artist: Katerina Pushkina

Cats are My Heart Shirt: I'm a huge fan of all things pink (which is pretty obvious from our blog design) so this box was the cat's pajamas for me, starting with this adorable shirt.

Photo: CatLadyBox on Facebook

Cat Ears Hoodie Blanket: I can't even begin to describe how soft and cozy this hoodie blanket is. The first night I wrapped myself up in it Mudpie was on my lap faster than you can say "squeezie" and we took a long nap together. The only thing that made her jump down is I think she started to overheat! It's TOASTY WARM!

Kitty Paperclips: I *adore* rose gold so these darling little cat head paperclips couldn't be more perfect.

Hissy Kissy Snake & Frosted Cookie Catnip Toys: Mudpie loves both of these adorable toys, and she was also crazy about the larger than normal CatLadyBox they came in to accommodate the hoodie blanket!

Grinchy Mudpie

Meows from Mudpie!

Today we're taking part in the annual celebration of Dr Seuss' birthday, also known as National Read Across America Day. While it's customary to dress up in the Cat in the Hat's signature red & white striped hat, the Seuss character I most closely identify with is the Grinch!

Now I know you're saying, "What do you mean, Mudpie? You LOVE Christmas!" And you're absolutely right, I do!

The reason I feel a kinship with the Grinch is our mutual dislike of...NOISE! I mentioned last week in my interview with cat behaviorist Anita Kelsey that I'm not a huge fan of music, and the living room isn't my favorite place to be when the TV is on either. In fact, if I hear sirens, animal sounds or kids screaming on the TV I'm virtually inconsolable and likely to retreat to the quiet safety of the bedroom.

What can I say, I'm a peace and quiet loving tortie. (Which is kind of ironic since I have a BIG voice!)
