It's been a couple years since we premiered our mewsic feature "Retro Country Rewind," a look back at favorite songs that hit #1 during that month from 30, 35, 40 plus years ago. This year we're delving into #1 hits from 1971, 1976, 1981, and so on. Let's take a look at August for this freebie week in the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop...
35 Years Ago - 1986, You're the Last Thing I Needed Tonight, John Schneider
This month we're starting with 3 #1 songs from 1986, all of which I adore.
I am a HUGE John Schneider fan. He has such an incredibly beautiful voice and I wish he had remained in country music. For awhile in the mid '80s he opened shows for Conway. Women must've been passing out in the aisles!
35 Years Ago - 1986, Strong Heart, T.G. Sheppard
35 Years Ago - 1986, Nobody in His Right Mind Would've Left Her, George Strait
45 Years Ago - 1976, Golden Ring, George Jones & Tammy Wynette
55 Years Ago - 1966, Almost Persuaded, David Houston
I'm losing my mind! I came by earlier this morning began listening to your song set, but then I needed to restart my computer and forgot where I was in my dance routine. Okay, I'm back again. I remember TG Sheppard mostly from the 70s. Oh, I remember "Golden Ring" by George & Tammy. They paired together on a number of songs as country's sweetheart couple for a time. I had all but forgotten that they were married one time. My parents listened to country when I was a kid frequently while I rebelled as a rock n' roller gal. These days I've come to respect those old artists from yesterday. They were talented musicians, songwriters, and singers even if it's not my prefer genre. Thanks for hitting the 4M dance floor, my furriends. Have a boogietastic week!
Growing up, I first knew John Schneider as an actor, so when I found out as a kid that he was a singer, I was shocked. I was even more shocked when my dad played one of his songs for me and I realized what an amazing voice he had.

Those were really good pics, we like those!
Never heard of David Houston, but I like all the rest.
I feel so old saying this - but they really don't make country music like they used to.
Such great songs. Thanks for sharing.
I'm not too familiar with country music, but if you like these songs, they must be good!

Great choices this week, Mudpie and Mom! I've always liked George Strait's music.
