The theme of this week's Mewsic Moves Me blog hop is "Birds! songs about birds, songs by bands or artists with bird names, songs with birds in them..."
Who knows who the little birdie is with Mudpie? It's Conway's mascot, the Twitty Bird! (NOT to be confused with Warner Brothers' Tweety Bird.) It all started in 1960 when rock deejays started referring to Conway as the "Twitty Bird." He liked it and created the cartoon character with cowboy hat, boots, and a guitar with his initials "CT" on it. In 1970 he even changed the name of his band from The Lonely Blue Boys to The Twitty Birds!
Not only does the name of Conway's band fit this week's theme, this song from his 1983 Merry Twismas album is partly sung by the Twitty Bird and tells the story of how all his little birdie friends celebrate Christmas...
Great picks here!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten Conway Twitty was referred to as the "Twitty Bird". :) I always liked Anne Murray's "Snowbird". I remember listening to this when I was a kid. I think my best friend Anita introduced it to me. DH always used "Rockin' Robin" to sign off with when he DJed for the summer. I think he used Michael Jackson's cover, though. Both the original and cover are excellent. I can't say for sure which I like the best. I grew up listening to MJ's version the most, though. Thanks for sharing and for joining the 4M crew on the dance floor, my dear. Have a boogietastic wee!
ReplyDeleteAhh...Anne Murray and Tanya Tucker!! Thanks for these songs as I had forgotten all about them, especially the Tanya Tucker number. Anne was always easy on the ears, but Tanya could rock the house when appropriate. Have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteWe love Snowbird (not to be confused with all those out of state cars we have here)
ReplyDeleteAnne Murray, "Snowbird"...I'd forgotten about that one. Nice playlist.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember Twitty Bird, what a fun idea and he ran with it, good for him.
ReplyDeleteHow had I forgotten about the Twitty Bird mascot? I didn't know the whole story behind it, though, so thank you for sharing that! And I'm not usually all that excited to hear Christmas songs before Halloween, but this one from Conway has me looking forward to Christmas already. Purrs!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't familiar with Twitty Bird, that works so well! Good picture of you Mudpie, and good bird-related music!
ReplyDeleteThat's very cute sweet Mudpie and we enjoyed the tunes!

ReplyDeleteAnne Murry is from the province we live in :)
I like the picture of you and the Twitty Bird!
