We thought today might be a good day to fill everyone in on what's been going on in our lives.
On December 17th my grandpa (Mommy's dad) ended up in the hospital with a very bad blood infection. He was there for 15 days on IV antibiotics but finally came home on Sunday. He's been through a lot of health issues in the past several years but this is the first time we feared we would lose him. In the first couple days the doctor even told Mommy and my grandma that some tough decisions might need to be made if he didn't show any improvement, but thankfully it never came to that.
Then on December 21st Mommy's boss dropped the very unexpected bomb that he had sold the company. Mommy has worked there for 22 years and this is the second acquisition she's gone through. The first time was a seamless transition, but this time she's not sure yet. The one good thing is this new company is 100% remote, so she's now home with me all day long! BUT she had to clean out her office by December 31st, which was a large undertaking she didn't need on top of everything else that was going on. (All of the pictures in today's post were taken after she brought her monster work computer home. I was fascinated by my reflection on the screen!)
Needless to say, with the exception of my pawsome Secret Paws package, we didn't really have a Christmas at our house this year. It's a good thing we decorate super early because at least we've gotten to enjoy our decorations throughout the season, and Mommy says they just might stay up until spring!
One last thing...as if anyone had any doubts how unforgettable I am, grandpa was extremely confused for several days and one afternoon the doctor was asking him some questions, quizzing him to test his memory. Mommy pulled up a picture of me on her phone and asked if he remembered me. She got an instant smile as he said "of course". He kept mistaking Mommy for his sister, but he knew who *I* was!!!
In the midst of everything Mommy was struck by a quote she read by our friends at the Manx Mnews blog, "I don't like what my clear colored glasses tell me is up ahead. I try to reassure myself with the thing I've repeatedly said, it's not today."
She's extremely concerned about what the future holds on many fronts, but I've promised to take the very best care of her that I can, just as she does of me.
What a rough holiday season you and your human had. :-( At least your human's dad is home, and your human is home for work so you can supervise her. I think maybe leaving the Christmas decorations up til spring is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry it's been a rough time. Hoping that everything improves! Sending hugs and purrs. <3

ReplyDeleteDear Melissa, just sending some gentle purrs, and quiet prayers your way ~ for improved health for your Dad, and that all will work out well for you and your employment. It is certainly a terribly upsetting way to end the year, to begin the new year ... but having read your blog for a long time, you are a woman of strength and faith. Keep holding on tight to those qualities within you as you go forward, one day at a time ...
ReplyDeleteFondly, Ann
We are glad that your Secret Paw brought some happiness to your Holiday.

ReplyDeleteOh, Mudpie and Mom Melissa. We are so sorry your holidays were so tough. We purr and pray things right themselves, and that Granpda is on the mend. Mupdpie, we love that he remembered you right away!
ReplyDeleteSometimes the scariest is when we're going through a tough time, but then everything turns out alright and we're feeling blessed for that.
ReplyDeleteHoping the new year brings peace and continued better health for your grandpa. They're a treasure. The housekeeper never even got to know hers due to a heart attack before she came to the US with her military dad. All the best to all of you! ~ Tom, Bridget, Penny and Julie xoxoxo
What a very scary holiday you have had. I am so very glad that your Mom's Dad came through alright. Mergers are very scary and to go through more than one is extra hard. We're sending purrs and prayers your way.
ReplyDeleteMudpie, we send you guys virtual hugs! We are glad your Peep's Dad is doing better and we are purraying for him and that your Peep's job does not change as the company changes owners. Sometimes things all happen at the same time. You will get through them with your strength and resilience that we have seen in your writings. You and your Peep are rock!
