I was once a shelter cat. Through circumstances we'll never know I ended up at a rescue in western New York, and when I didn't get adopted there I was transferred to Vermont where I found my forever home. I have all the food, toys, and treats I could ever want, warm beds and blankies, and most importantly, a Mommy who worships me.
I was one of the lucky ones, but millions of kitties just like me aren't so lucky. They live without food, warmth, and love, and then either die on the streets or in a shelter because no one ever shows up to adopt them.
While many pets get to celebrate finding their forever home through the efforts of rescue organizations, there are over 900,000 cats and dogs each year that do not find homes and spend the final moments of their lives in the shelter.
That's why animal-lovers and animal welfare organizations across the globe will unite today with a Remember Me Thursday pet candle-lighting ceremony. The candles, which will be lit on the exact same day across the world, will honor the millions of pets who lost their lives without the benefit of a loving home and shine a light on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption. The Remember Me Thursday global awareness campaign encourages individuals to light a candle this day (literally or virtually) and to opt to adopt, reducing the millions of orphan pets euthanized each year.
Orphaned pets can't speak for themselves. Caring humans are their only voice. Spread the word about Remember Me Thursday on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media channels. Don’t forget to use the official hashtags - #RememberMeThursday and #ShineALight - and to share your thoughts and feelings about the importance of pet adoption.

Mommy and I would like to thank the Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) for the pawsome blogger kit they sent filled with swag for both of us. We will be using everything with pride!

We're so glad your Mommy found you, Mudpie! You two make a great team.
Mudpie, you and your mommy have done a great reminder blog today. We appreciate it. Precious was an orphan that I have no idea why but after 11 years with her, I can not imagine life without her.
I did read on the Whitefish dry food and remember now why Precious can not have it. When she reached 15 pounds 6 years ago, the vet tried her on one kind or another of prescription diet food. Each one had 13 to 15% fat and each one made her fatter. By the time she reached 17 plus, I found the dry Purina One indoor with only 9% fat but good protein. She's made it below 16 in just 6 months and stayed that way. I am afraid to change.
Angel Seney would have loved the new Fancy Feast you mentioned. She only ate Fancy Feast with a slight bit of dry.
We both thank you, Lynn and Precious
I was in a shelter too. I purr for all those animals in shelters and purr that they find good homes like I did. ~Ernie
I am so glad you got such a loving forever home. I wish all kitties were so lucky. XO
It was just meant to be sweet Mudpie and we're so happy you found your purrfect forever home!
You and your Mommy are a purrfect match made in Heaven, Mudpie. We are so grateful you found each other! Thank you so much for helping Shine the Light. XO
Good to read your story of finding a loving home, Mudpie! Most of our kitties over the year were rescues from roadsides, or abandoned strays and ferals in neighborhoods.
