Mommy here!
I have to commandeer today's blog post to give an example of how utterly adorable Mudpie is. (Not that you need it!)
New Year's Day has always been a big deal for my father's side of the family. Throughout my entire life the whole family gathered together at the farmhouse he grew up in to have a big dinner.
The pandemic put an end to that tradition, and because we have elderly relatives that are still hesitant to attend a large gathering, it hasn't resumed.
This year one of my cousins organized a Zoom call so we could all be together for a couple hours virtually on New Year's night. I put my laptop on dad's lap during the call, and in no time at all Mudpie decided she wanted a cuddle and jumped up onto his lap too. She tiptoed across the keyboard to everyone's amusement, and flashed her cute little bottom right on camera. (She's very thankful her fur has grown back "down there" after it was shaved this fall!) She ended up clicking both the mute button and the option to leave the call, but no harm was done.
She settled down on dad's chest as the call continued, and everyone could hear her purring. When she decided to get up she looked at the screen and the movement caught her attention, so she started pawing at people's faces.
The whole thing just made my day. During the pandemic there were so many viral videos of cats "attending" online meetings, I couldn't believe Mudpie became the star of our family Zoom call. Although she's so special I really shouldn't be surprised.
I emailed my cousin to see if by any chance he had recorded the call, but sadly, he didn't. How I would love to have that memory preserved on video!

Oh good gosh, what a hoot Mudpie is! It's too bad the session wasn't recorded as a keeper, and it's a good thing Mudpie's Brazilian grew back, right? My dad says his holidays of yore with his expansive family were like that as well and he'll always remember them fondly. Happy New Year to you both!!
Even though you couldn't meet the person, I think this will probably go down for the greatest new years get together you may have ever seen. It sounded like fun. Lovely that it was all pulled together so nicely.
You made me laugh out loud. Well done, Mudpie.
Have a purrfect day and rest of the week. My best to your mom. ♥
That sounds like it was a fun time for everyone sweet Mudpie!
Awww...that sounds so fun.
What a delightful memory. Yes, having it preserved would be nice extra, being able to talk it over with the family every time you gather will be almost as good.
Aww, we love this so much. It's wonderful that Mudpie was such an important part of the family Zoom call!
I loved this to the moon and back! SO glad Mudpie let you do the talking this time. Us parents enjoy the actions of our furbabies. I pictured it all the way through the description. Mudpie, I will have, as Smudge put it, a Brazilian when I go for my senior profile. We'll share experiences. (because I have long furs and they sometimes interfere with nature's calls).
What a cutie she is!
