Melted Mudpie #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

Like much of the country, we were under a heat dome this past week. On Wednesday the heat index hit 105 degrees!!! In northern Vermont!!!

I melted...

  4. Definitely a time to stop indoors. Run the aircon and cosy up with a bowl of chilled food and a niptini!

  13. Yeah, we saw on the weather map that the hottest place in the US was in your area. That was quite a surprise. It hit 100 here for the first time in years

But TBT says it used to be common to have several days that hot each year. But not in June.

He doesn't want to go on about "climate change", but things are changing.

We are happy to be outside most days, but we come into the house more willingly on days like these.

  15. I'm not sure that Serena has a way to understand how lucky we are, Mudpie...I go out on the porch and look at the thermometer. 65, it said, the last time I looked (early this morning); it's a Fahrenheit thermometer. Then I go in and look at the computer. 72, it said, at the weather station twenty miles away. So I know it was 80 in town.

The temperature gap gets worse in hotter weather. Last week I was doing physical work in a cool, thick-walled, windowless old warehouse. Sun beating down on the wide doorway raised the temperature into the low 70s. At 5 p.m. the thermometer inside the car that brought me home would be showing 100 (F) on the outside of the car; inside, of course, was much hotter. It must have been 105 or more in the city ten miles away, where my mother used to live. At the Cat Sanctuary, the thermometer's in the shade, as is most of the house, and temperatures were in the bearable eighties.

I hope youall can find an old farmhouse in the country, with shade!
