Unsuccessful Selfies #PetPhotoFails

Meows from Mudpie!

Thank you for joining us for this month's edition of the Pet Photo Fails Blog Hop! After a wet, humid summer, we've had a pawsome month of weather. We didn't have a single drop of rain from the 9th to the 25th!!! I get to soak up the warm sun in the daytime and curl up on Mommy's nap at night. It's the best of both worlds!

Both of my bloopers this month were taken while I was trying to snap a selfie. In the first one Mommy was trying to make it an ussie!

Those are my bloopers...let's see yours!

#ShineALight for Pet Adoption #RememberMeThursday

I have a cousin who worked for our local humane society back in the 1980s, and I will never forget the day she told me that on the day a dog was to be euthanized they would go out and get them a hamburger from McDonalds as one last special meal. If that doesn't simply gut you I just don't know what to say. I can't even type it without crying. Those innocent little angels deserved the kind of life your own cherished pets enjoy, but they were never given that chance.

We've come a long way since then - this same shelter now adopts out animals so quickly we're able to partner with shelters down south to save even more lives - but as a nation we still have a long, long way to go. The sad truth is, for over a million healthy, adoptable animals each year, help never comes. Thanks to awareness that number has consistently decreased in the last decade, but just one animal dying alone, forgotten in a shelter, is one too many.

That's why animal-lovers and animal welfare organizations across the globe will unite today with a Remember Me Thursday pet candle-lighting ceremony. The candles, which will be lit on the exact same day across the world, will honor the millions of pets who lost their lives without the benefit of a loving home and shine a light on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption. The Remember Me Thursday global awareness campaign encourages individuals to light a candle this day (literally or virtually) and to opt to adopt, reducing the millions of orphan pets euthanized each year.

Orphaned pets can't speak for themselves. We are their only voice. Spread the word about Remember Me Thursday on Facebook, Twitter and other social media channels. Don’t forget to use the hashtags #RememberMeThursday and #SeeTheLight to share your thoughts and feelings about the importance of pet adoption.

CONTEST: Win life-saving funds or food for a rescue or shelter of your choice! Take a photo of your rescue pet and tag the picture with #RememberMeThursday and #ShineALight on social media to be entered into the challenge!

1. Stunning Keisha is a blog I enjoyed that is no longer there. Technically it's still there, but no longer being updated because both CK & TW are gone. I miss them both so much.

2. I won't ever attempt to grow cucumbers again. Last year I had two plants and ended up with a dozen cukes. Success! This year out of 4 plants I got ONE cucumber!!! I don't know what went wrong, but it's cheaper just to buy cukes in the store than all those plants for nothing.

3. I once injured myself while running. ALL of my injuries since childhood have happened because I'm always running.

4. I usually get 6-7  hours of sleep.

Mommy's Running Outta Kitchen Floor

Meows from Mudpie!

Saturday afternoon Mommy came home from grocery shopping and I immediately plopped down on top of one of her shopping bags.

Spoiler: there was a 3 pound bag of my food inside!

5 days later and I'm still using it for a nap spot, so Mommy hasn't had the heart to pick it up. (Yes, the bag of cat food is still inside. Apparently I like lumpy beds.)

Notice my pizza box and grandpa's old coat in the background that I also love to nap on?

Mommy says she's running out of places to walk in the kitchen.

Mommy's Trying To Kill Me #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

I know what you're thinking. "Mudpie, you're crazy! Your Mommy worships you. She would never do anything to hurt you!"

Don't believe me? Well hear me out...

To start, one day last week Mommy had fixed the back door (just as you see here) so I could look out for a few minutes. She didn't realize how strong the wind was, and when her back was turned the door slammed shut on my paws! It pinched! I squealed!

But much, much worse...as a Rewards member at Lowe's, Mommy was able to pick up a free mum plant on Friday morning. It's no secret Mommy has a black thumb, but since it was free she figured she'd give it a shot. Now I always enjoy checking out things like apples and sweet corn when she brings it home, so she thought maybe I might like to give the mum plant a sniff. I also have a bad habit of chewing on dried flowers around the house, so the minute she put the mum down I bit at it and chewed off a tiny part of a leaf.

Mommy took the plant right away from me, and then started wondering if mums are safe for kitties. She went right to Google only to read that they're TOXIC to cats!!!

Needless to say, she went into panic mode. She snapped a picture of the leaf I had taken a bite out of and emailed it to my vet, who said it was so teeny tiny small it was nothing to be concerned about, just to keep an eye on me in the off chance I might end up with a little upset tummy.

Mommy worried all day, but I was fine. She says she's never, ever bringing a live plant into the house ever again! She just doesn't know enough about them to know what is and isn't safe for kitties, and kitties are much more important to her than stupid old plants and flowers.

Ok, so maybe she wasn't trying to kill me after all...but you have to admit I've had some pretty close calls lately!

A Bittersweet Discovery

Mommy here.

Over the years I've taken a number of photos of Mudpie snuggling stuffies at the foot of my mom's bed. These are just a few:

Mom always thought it was the sweetest thing that Mudpie did this, and started calling the stuffies Mudpie's "girls".

Mom has been gone for 18 months now. I haven't changed anything in her bedroom, but most importantly I've left these stuffies at the foot of the bed so Mudpie could continue snuggling them anytime she wanted to.

The strange thing is, since Mom has been gone Mudpie completely stopped cuddling with that pile of stuffies...until this week. On Monday afternoon she disappeared and when I went looking for her I couldn't believe she was finally sleeping there again. It wasn't just a fluke either, because she's gone back in there daily for a nap.

I don't know what made her finally decide to snuggle up with her "girls" again, but it made me so happy, while also majorly tugging at my heartstrings. Mom would be so happy to see her curled up there again. It was certainly a bittersweet moment.

Feline Friday is simple to join. All you have to do is:

Post a picture, drawing, cartoon or video of a cat (They may be silly or cute).

Happy Birthday, Mommy!!!

Meows from Mudpie!

Please join me in wishing Mommy a purr-fect birthday today!

Mommy says she misses the days when birthdays were fun and exciting. Our local fairs have always been this time of year so the country concerts she would go to would all be a part of her birthday celebration. Now there's nobody around she even cares to go see.

I can't do anything about that, but I can play this for her today!

Mo's New Digs

Meows from Mudpie!

I feel like our feral friend Mo is taking over MY blog, but Mommy wanted me to share these pictures.

There's a fence between our driveway and our neighbor's house with a beautiful vine growing on it. A couple weeks ago we noticed Mo had made himself a little bed underneath it!

This fence is right outside our kitchen window, so Mommy can keep an eye on him, and Mo can keep an ear out for Mommy's food delivery! (These pictures were taken through the glass door because as soon as Mommy opens the door he goes into hiding.)

Mo left Mommy a gift in his new bed too...tufts of his fur!!! Mommy was SO excited when she found this. (It was kind of ridiculous. I give her fur by the handful and she doesn't squeal with delight!) She says she was happy to find it because it's the only way she's ever going to know what he feels like.

Now each day she looks under the fence for more Mo fur to add to her collection. She's hoping to gather enough to put in a Christmas ornament this year!
